It was approved by the FDA in March for maintenance therapy, after
radiotherapy for GBM .
The new approval of Temodar for GBM was based on efficacy and safety data
from a large randomized controlled study conducted by the European
Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) in patients with
newly diagnosed GBM.
Temodar was previously granted accelerated approval in 1999 for the
treatment of adult patients with another form of brain tumor.
And before that (back to 1990) looks to me that it was available by
injection.
Temodar (temozolomide) is basically an orally-active form of dacarbazine.
Temozolomide is structurally related to dacarbazine An anolog of
dacarbazine (the www says)
So it looks like Temozolomide is easier to administer (by pill) and less
toxic.
Now it looks like they're testing (clinical trial) one vs the other for
Stage IV melanoma.
