I am just checking in on everyone, seeing how you all are.  I haven't
been on alot, lurking from time to time, but not often.  Anyway, with
the holidays fast approaching, I just thought it was time to wish
everyone a happy holiday and to let you know that I think about this
group often and hope for happier times for all of you.  This group
helped me and Patrick so much that I can't describe. Anyway, Rockie and
I are doing well.  My health is getting better, even with all the meds
I have to take now, but whatever works, right?  Anyway, I will lurk for
a while, wishing you all good health and wonderful memories and lots of
love

Hello Salisha, good to see you again.  I'm still here but mainly lurking
these days.  Mother seems to be doing OK and is slowly getting back to
being able to eat normally although she still has no feeling at all on
one side of her face and may indeed never recover that.  At the moment I
don't have a lot to offer people here other than the occasional hug, and
having gone back to college more or less full time life has got just a
tad hectic since September.

Hello Em,

And there's me thinking you'd gone all quiet cos you were too busy cleaning
your house or eating chocolate cake ;-) didn't realise you were recapturing
your youth by going back to college ;-) what are you studying?  Hope all is
going well, you can do it, you're a woman you can multi-task!

Warm Hugs

Would you believe they're teaching me to use MS Office?  It's called
'High Tech Skills' and 'NVQ in Business Administration', but essentially
it's MS Office.  Yawn.  Still, it keeps me off the streets and out of
mischief...

And who said "you can't teach an ole dog new tricks"!!!  Actually moi aussi,
work is trying to get me to do the ECDL (Eurpoean Computer Driving Licence),
shucks I only use one every day.....

Good to hear that you are being kept out of mischief though and I didn't
realise you were a "working girl" ;-)

My God! You two birdies are furthering your education? Hell - good for you
both.
Em - I was under the apprehension that you were avoiding the housework, this
is one of your better schemes I take it?

I have unfortunately spent the last 3 days doing nowt but housework. Me and
hubby went to London to see the big lights and wide streets and my mum and
in-laws looked after the bairns. Holy Mary, Mother of God I think they
handed the kids pots of paint, jam and chocolate spread, stood back and said
"Hey - go decorate!"
Hubby has gone away for work this week, the cat somehow knows this so
brought a LIVE rat into the kitchen on Monday. I bravely swiped both cat and
rat with broom until they shot out of door across the field.
Cat was obviously v.v. cross and on Tuesday night caught another. But the
cunning cat waited until I was asleep..... I awoke to find a beheaded rat
(front paws gone too) on my lounge floor this morning. Cat now has v.v. sore
arse (sorry Fig I realise this is cat abuse, but I was provoked)
So anyway that is my life this week......
Hugs to both you brainy birds

Hi Sinead,

I did say work was "trying" to get me to do the ECDL, I didn't say I was
actually doing it (and am trying my best to wriggle out of it actually ;-)

Eeks "there's a rat in my kitchen, what am I gonna do" (UB40)....  My Meg
has brought in many wildlife but I don't think a rat has been amongst her
"presents", I think I would have gone a bit wobbly on that one.  Hmmm as for
the parents allowing your children to trash your house, do you think that
was revenge for your childhood ;-)

Hugs Sinead

I've been in education one way or another for years.  Having been
terminally bored at school I went to university in my 20s and scraped
through a degree in theology (don't ask).  I then did a couple of sports
coaching qualifications, and a few years later started learning Welsh
and maths.  I've had to drop the Welsh now due to a timetable clash, but
the maths forms the only part of the course I'm currently doing that I
really want to do.  Pity it's only two separate hours each week... the
rest of the time the main emphasis is on being able to use b****y
Mickeysnot Worm 2000 and finding my way (*spit*) around Windows.  They
can't even be bothered to teach me to use a decent OS unless I go
further afield, and then I'd never be able to get back in time to pick
the children up from school  :-(

My mother looked after my brood recently while I was away.  Apparently
she never stopped nagging them the whole time she was here, and even
told my teenage daughter to tidy her room.  That's something I've never
done - it's /her/ room and she keeps it how she damn' well pleases.
D'you want to swap?

So far I've only encountered one thing I hadn't done before - running a
virtual company selling beauty products.  Maybe you don't realise this,
but I rarely, if ever wear face paint, because I can't stand the stuff.
You can imagine just how much I enjoy telling people how wonderful
lipstick is when I actually think it's one of the worst things
invented...  :-(

I would have done that, but it would have cost me over £200 whereas the
course I'm doing is funded by the Assembly.  But (yawn) it's incredibly
b-o-r-i-n-g.

Hey Salisha honey,

It's good to get another post from you, you sure do sound upbeat.

I dipped my toe in the dating game, but oh so quickly withdrew it, other
than a gut reaction of not "feeling right" the guy ended up giving me the
creeps and turned up everytime I turned around.  Hmmm.  I like my
independence too much anyway now ;-)

At least you've got ideas - I /still/ don't know what I want to do when
(if?) I grow up!

That's the thing, isn't it.  It's a strange sort of party, with people
whom you know you're not going to have around for long and people who
are going through the worst times - but it's sort of addictive.  My
mother's fine at the moment so I don't need to be here, but I stayed
because I wanted to keep up to date with Socks - and then I found I
still stayed because there are others here I want to know about and see
how they're getting on...  I think I'll go and put the kettle on: my
other half turned 50 the other week and there's cake[1] here.  Cuppa
anyone?

> Em...good luck with

Like I said, it keeps me out of mischief.  On the whole, there are times
when I'd prefer the mischief...  ;-)

[1] This being the Internet, you can have whatever sort of cake you'd
like.  There's fruit, chocolate (of course), cherry liqueur, chocolate
with brandy, carrot, carrot and apple, choccynana... or you can just do
what everyone else does and have a large plate and a chunk of each.

Ooooh, now you're talking but not sure if I could manage a chunk of each,

I'm the sort of middle-aged woman (I don't think I'll /ever/ be a
'lady' <g>) who's the first on the bouncy castle whenever the
opportunity affords.  Oh, and I've decided that I want a Gold Wing.
However, since I know I'd never even get it off its stand, I want a Gold
Wing trike.  That way it probably won't fall over, either, so I'd not
have to worry about picking it up again :-)

We've got snow.  Since this is the UK, and since we're never but NEVER
prepared for weather, all the schools round here are closed so I've got
my lot home for the day.  Outside, the hills are alive with the sound of
children playing...

Oh poor you Em, having the schools closed an all, mind you is the amount of
snow "worthy" ie can you do something useful with it like have snowball
fights and build snowmen?  We had a couple of little flurries today but that
soon disappeared, just caused an incovenience rather than fun, roads very
slippy and the flakes stuck to my eyelashes (had to put my visor up because
it kept steaming up ;-)  Mind you, even if we had a decent amount, there'd
still be no hills around here (flat as a pancake!)

Poor me?  Oh yes, poor me.  Poor me who took one look out of the window,
assessed the situation - and went back to bed for a couple of hours :-)

Oh yes, definitely.  Mine have been out in fits and starts, checked on
the rabbit, concluded it's too cold, and have come back in to watch
DVDs.  I've done some work on the computer (rang into college, "I'm
working from home today" - sounds good, anyway) then went back to bed
because there's a draught in here and me pore ickle handses was getting
cold.  Altogether now: Aaaahhh.

We've had the gritters out over a week now, but the slush seems to have
frozen under the fresh (and now compacted) snow, so even the main roads
are slippery.  I'm going to try to get to the archery club this evening,
but don't wait up for me - I may be some time...

would have had the kids at home for an extra day, but if you spent it in

One of the advantages of having slightly older children is that they can
oversee the younger ones :-)

And yes, of course they brought me cups of tea - they know exactly
what'll happen if they fail to keep their ma happy... <evil grin>

Strange how that happens, isn't it.  But don't worry: bananas, carrots,
apples, cherries - they're all fruit or veg.  Chocolate contains milk
(protein and calcium).  All my cakes have eggs in (protein).  The alchol
gets burned off in the cooking, leaving just the grape (more fruit).
See?  You've already had your five portions of fruit today!
