I have a female friend that once in a while, I month or more may go by
without that appening, bleeds from the rectum after going to the bath room.
The blood comes right after the stool and is bright red and runs for a short
while, maybe it drips fast. No other symptoms. Could it be from varicose
veins or hemorrhoids which she has the tendency to have?
Thank you

None of us know what's wrong with the friend.
She could be constipated and have an anal fissure, she could have hemorrhoids, she could have
cancer or any combination.
Tell her to see her doctor.

Could be, and could be from bowel endometriosis, if it happens monthly.
But bleeding is a symptom which should be checked out......

I am not a physician, but generally the brighter red it is, the less
likely it is a tumor. Your friend should see a proctologist in the
near future however. In addition to what you have suggested, it could
be a fissure (crack). It could be a tumor as well, but under the
circumstances, well down on the list of probable choices.

Thank you for your answers. She is going to have a colonoscopy soon. She was
supposed to have one done some time ago just as a matter of routine.
