On Tuesday of this week, Jill & I went up to London to Guy's Hospital
Genetics Department.  The consultant asked her a lot about her family
medical history both up past mother and father and down to her children.
The genealogical side of the family history is difficult seeing that her
father was an Evans, her mother born a Jones and her grandmother born a
Davies, all in South Wales!!.  She had difficulty going up in the family
tree because her mother divorced her father in 1940 shortly after Jill was
born and moved from the Rhondda up to London.  A very, very  rare event for
mining families at that time and especially for a wife to divorce her
husband.  She never saw her father and he was very seldom talked about in
the family.
The consultant said she was an unusual case in that she has had three
attacks of cancer which are not connected.  (Endometrial, breast and now
Rectal.)  He said that having read the notes from both Maidstone and Medway
hospitals he thought the prognosis was very good of a successful conclusion.
Jill was mainly worried that perhaps the cancers were hereditary but he said
there was little evidence to support this theory.  He did suggest that her
daughter, in her 40's has a bi-annual mammogram and that both her son and
daughter were to ask for a colonoscopy when they reached 50 and for it to be
repeated every other year.  He said that this would show up any polyps
before they could become cancerous and that at that stage they could be
easily removed (the polyps that is!).
All in all it settled her mind a lot.
She will start radiology combined with a low dose chemo in two weeks time.
Thanks for all support, we find it very helpful.
