After speaking with the oncologist, radiologist, and surgeon over the
last two days things are far better than I could have hoped for.
Stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue with metastasis to one
lymph node on the right side of the neck
I will start a series of 27 radiation treatments at the end of the
month with 3 concurrents sessions of chemo in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th
week (cisplatin). The radiation will be to either side of the neck
and the centerline (larnyx etc) will be spared. I will not have to
undergo any radiation to my tongue where the primary tumor existed as
my surgeon felt that it was clearly defined and the margins were
excellent. This means no peg tube which I am happy about.
It is still a tough road to travel but I want to thank everyone on the
sight for their posts, emails, thoughts and prayers. My prognosis is
excellent and I look forward to getting through this and back to some
semblance of normalcy.
Thank you all again,
Chuck

Good to read that you won't need a peg tube, Chuck.
Good luck and keep in touch,
