Hello everybody,

I have a strange problem. I woke up one morning and out of nowhere came
extreeme abdominal pains right over my bladder area, blood in my urine,
and also my entire pelvic and hip bones hurt like mad. I had no injures
whatsoever. Since I had no medical insurance I did'nt go to the doctor
right away, and tried to wait it out. I had the pain for three weeks,
until I broke down and went to a doctor who thought it was urinary
tract infection (UTI) or prostatitis, and gave me antibiotics for two
weeks.

The pain went down from a scale of 10 to about 3 in two days but never
completly went away. Then after antibiotics was finished the pain came
back again full force.

So I went to a urologist who looked in my bladder using a camera, he
said there was nothing, and told me to go get an adbominal CT scan,
which also found nothing. He gave me LEVAQUIN antibiotics for 2 months,
which did nothing but made every cell in my body hurt from head to toe.

Then I got frustrated and started thinking I had cancer, and I took a
blood test called AMAS cancer test, it came back NEGATIVE.

Six weeks later I still had lots of pain in abdominal area, pelvic
bone, and hips. I took the AMAS test again which came back POSITIVE for
cancer!!!

I went nuts!! I went so crazy that I ran to the emergency room (dont
know why). They gave me an abdominal CT scan and found nothing.

Now I'm having blood in my stool almost every day, and also blood in my
urine, and blood from my nose one time, watery stool sometimes,
diarria, constant rumbling and gurgling sounds in my intestines,
frequent urination, pelvic bone and hip pain!

I ran to the GI doctor for a colonoscopy which came back negative, and
now waiting for an Upper GI series with small bowel next monday.

While waiting for the Upper GI series I went and paid for a full body
PET/CT scan, which showed mucoperiosteal thickening and small air fluid
level in left maxillary sinus (sinusitis). The pet scan shows focal FDG
uptake in rectum, and also throught the bowel, and said it was likely a
normal variant, but should consider having abdominal MRI to check for
liver and pancreas problems.

I keep hearing stories of patient death from misdiagnosis, so I went to
see a champion oncologist (cancer doctor), brought all of my test
results, PET SCAN pictures, CT scans, AMAS test results etc. After
studing it for a long while, he stopped short of throwing me out of his
office, saying I dont have cancer. Ignoring the AMAS cancer test saying
he never heard of it.

I'm so scared, I dont know what to do. I'm almost broke from paying for
everything myself using my savings, I got no job and no insurance. I'm
sure I already spent at least $10,000 of my savings and 401K money on
medical test and doctor visits and emergency room visits.

I have so many symptoms blood in stool, blood in urine, abdominal pain,
pelvic bone pain and hip pain, blurry vision, blood from nose, am I a
dead man? Doctors keep giving me the brush off. Do you think I got
cancer?

Thanks
Scared Nuts!!

Unfortunately bleeding problems can take multiple investigations.
It could be that you have several more benign problems being aggravated by
environmental (dry air) and/or pain medications.
NSAID's containing aspirin or aspirin containing antibiotics or pain
medications can affect the clotting process in some.
I'm one of those persons.
It mgiht be listed as acetylsalicylic acid  The brand names vary...examples
(Aspirin, Ecotrin, Naproxen). I have to read every label carefully and/or
ask the pharmacist. Even with food, if I take higher doses, I bleed from
numerous places. That's one possible if you're taking something for pain.

The first cancer that comes to mind when I read your description is
multiple myeloma.
I think that requires bloodwork (hemotologist/oncologist).
But again, your problem could be combinations of more benign problems..

You have to let the process happen and hopefully be followed by one good
doctor, even if it's your general practitioner.
If you'd asked, I would have told you that the AMAS test is useless.

Can you talk to social services at a hospital and tell them your financial
situation. (I'm in Canada, so investigations are usually paid for by our
system). But it's my understanding that some hospitals will either work out
a payment plan or do some of the investigating /treatments for free.  What
State are you in?  I had a report about the best hospitals for low income
persons/state. I'll have to see if I can refind it again.

Would they able to help you get on Medicaid?

I found it :-)

Special thanks to Kathi who was posting on a newsgroup that (some) people think
is amusing.
She's currently in the hospital dying (of end stage lung disease).

click on "complete list" there.

Other possibles: (which each include lists of potential causes)
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001304.htm Bleeding
disorders/diseases
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/bleeding/
http://www.aafp.org/afp/991001ap/1421.html - a ooster on another newsgroup had
lupus and was bleeding from various parts of her body. Unfortunately, she was
also in financial dire straits and we lost touch with her. So it's listed along
with vasculitis and other possibles there.

There's so many possibles...
And I did see on one webpage where pancreatic and/or liver can cause bleeding.

I could probably find more, but someone's got to sort out what is or isn't
happening with you.
The best you can do is not take supplements, do not drink, do not take meds
that are known to exacerbate bleeding, make sure you're environmental air is
clean (open a window) and humidified.. and get to work on getting help with the
financial situation.

Please let us know what they find, if/when it's sorted out.
My best to you.
