I ran my first 5k race this weekend.  I have said for years that I one
day wanted to participate in a 5k race, but never actually did anything
about it.  I also wanted to run a 10k, and the same thing happened -
nothing.

Then came the cancer.....

.....and after I felt better again - I started to live healthier and
joined team in training.

I entered my first 5k race this weekend - ran the whole thing without
walking any of it - and finished it.  And unless I get injured, I will
participate in an olympic distance triathlon in May and I will
participate in a 10k in July.

After that, the sky's the limit.  Who knows, maybe I'll be able to tell
you one day that I finished an Ironman.....

Life is good :-)

Elsie, busy running?
Hugs to you,

Yup, very busy with running, fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society, working, taking classes (finals is almost here), getting ready
for a play in my theatre class at the end of this month  and last but
not least getting ready to leave my current job ion about a month or
so....  There are days when I don't know how I'm going to get
everything done I need to do.  But it's all good.

I entered my first sprint triathlon yesterday (400 yard swim, 15 mile
bike ride, 5 k run).  The weather was cold, wet and miserable.  I
almost convinced myself not to do it due to the weather conditions, but
I did it anyway - and finished it.

Yup, life is still good ;-)

Good on ya.

I'm still having trouble walking more than a few hundred meters, but
straight after my op the oncologist put me on steroids. The first thing
I said to him was .. Well there goes my chance of making the next Olympics.

Tongue in cheek of course, as I have never been that good at sports, bar
sprints at primary school (grade school). But I do intend to get back to
running as soon as I can ditch this walking stick.

You're an inspiration Elsie. Keep it up and maybe we'll see you in the
Hawaii ironman some day.

Thanks, Rob.  I've actually never been good at sports, either.  As of
the beginning of this year, I could not run a mile... So there's hope
for all of us.

After I finish this Olympic distance Ironman in May I'd like to train
for a Half Ironman.  A full Ironman will take a whole lot more than
either one of those, but - and don't tell anybody this - to tell you
the truth, there is that little voice in the back of my head that
thinks that I might one day be able to do the Full Ironman in
Hawaii.... Now THAT would be an accomplishment :-)

She's been posting here so long, that I'm betting that if she told us where,
before hand, there's be a grand cheering team at each event.(if she wanted
there to be).
