Mikey Mike - 20 Feb 2005 02:24 GMT Hello everyone,my name is Mike and I have a problem that is scaring me.I realize that I do not belong to your group but I am trying to get some opinions. For about a month I have had bowel problems.Strange looking stools, constipation, strange colored stools. Just yesterday I was rubbing an itch under my arm and discovered a lump in my arm pit. Do I have cancer? A lump is bad, right? Please, all opinions are welcome. I'm very scared.Thank you.

However from what you write, there is nothing you can do but get yourself immediately to a physician and let him perform tests to determine your problem. I wish you luck, and will pray for you. Most of us who reply to you have had our bouts with the terror, and many of us have had the good fortune to survive its threat. Let us know what happens after you see your doctor, and we will be beside you to offer you a hand.

MB_ - 20 Feb 2005 06:39 GMT Mikey:
The bowel symptoms do not sound at all like cancer. They sound like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).
The lump under your arm can be lots of things. Have you had a sore throat lately???
Having said all that, I'd also add you'd be a FOOL not to get immediate medical attention. We are not doctors here and even if we were, no response here could possibly be superior to a physical examination. Most likely the results will relieve you tremendously of your anxiety!
Good luck with you medical appointment.

The most important thing to know about any cancer is the sooner it is spotted the better your chances for a complete cure!
As others have said... GO TO A DOCTOR.
Best wishes

Caph - 23 Feb 2005 19:49 GMT Mikey, I'm not a Dr or anything, just a survivor. The symptoms you describe could be cancer depending on what kind it is. It could also be a simple viral/bacterial infection. In either case you should get into a Dr as soon as possible and get it checked out, if for no other reason than to end a stressful concern. Carol
> Mikey: > [quoted text clipped - 21 lines] >> >> Mike Mikey Mike - 23 Feb 2005 22:07 GMT Went to the doctor today!! He probed the lump under my arm and he said he thinks it's fatty tissue. He took 4 vials of blood and is going to have that worked. The doctor has scheduled an EGD (to look for upper GI bleeding and such) and a colonoscopy (with the fecal blood test).I will have these done Tuesday (March 1st). He gave me the Halflytly for the prep stuff. Wish me luck!! Thank you to everyone!! God bless all of you.

Caph - 23 Feb 2005 22:36 GMT Best of luck, Mike. I'm sure it will probably all be just fine. BUT always better to be on the safe side than sorry.

I know it is a wierd round-about-way to get there but it is the way I have it booked marked.

Rebecca Lott - 05 Mar 2005 22:42 GMT Dan:
It may be something much less serious than cancer, HOWEVER, you need to get to a gastroenterologist immediately. Failing that see your family doctor, or even the emergency room at the hospital. Every moment counts if it is cancer. In October, 2003, my ankles started to swell. The swelling increased and the joints became painful, then the long bones in my legs began hurting, then my elbow joints and my fingers began to swell. I was treated by my family doctor for rheumatoid arthritis, even though my rheumatoid factor was normal. He finally referred me to a rheumatologist who ordered an x-ray of my chest. Lo and Behold, I had a large lung cancer! (finally diagnosed in February, 2004. It is very rare for a lung cancer to present with those symptoms (hypertrophic osteo adenopathy [sp] ). By the time I finally (another long story, no ins.) had surgery In April, 2004, (pneumenectomy of left lung) the cancer had grown to 9cm, a tad bit over 3 inches, and was staged at IIIa. I had an excellent surgeon, and am due for my 1 year check up soon. All seems to be well so far. I didn't mean to give you my history, other than to let you know how essential it is to be treated early and not let them fool around with your diagnosis like the did with me.

Welcome Beckie, That was a roundabout way to get diagnosed for lung cancer. I have seen swollen joints (arthritis like symptoms) as a potential sign of lung cancer. Which type of lung cancer did you have?
My best to you and keep in touch, J

Hi Bob, hope you're doing well, Regards, J
Bob Allison - 08 Mar 2005 01:51 GMT > > If she had surgery on a 9 cm tumor, my money is on NSCLC > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > Regards, > J Surgery on SCLC is not done unless the tumor is very small. In the mm range. I was told that the tumor is more likely to spread than NSCLC. Fortunately Small Cell responds to radiation and chemo.
