Update on my Dad

About a year ago, my Dad was dx. with Merkel Cell carcinoma.

Soon after, he had surgery for it (on his scalp). He had a very rough week
in recovery, but came through it.

So far, no sign of a recurrence. My Dad will be 97 years old on May 14th.

We will be visiting him at the end of this month.

Unfortunately, he has had some strange dementia, but I suspect it may be
more age-related than cancer-related. At times, he is absolutely amazing. He
can watch a speech by Pres. Bush and we can have an amazing conversation
about politics, economics, or whatever. During those times he is logical,
coherent, and highly intelligent. The next day, he might not remember my
wife's name and when he is talking to me he might think he is talking to his
brother (deceased 20 years ago). It is not an easy situation. But, I would
say that 60% of the time he is coherent and on target.

We are hoping and rooting for him to make it to 100!!!

Hope so Mel, I'm glad you're going to visit.
I can only pull from my own database. My MIL was like that for years (maybe 5) .

It's amusing for us to hear it, but less so (can become frustrating) for day-day
carers.
May he have many more good years and enjoyable times with (you) all.
Thanks for the update.
J
