Misrepresentation of ASC by Usenet Replayer

Usenet Replayer is misrepresenting alt.support.cancer as a binary
newsgroup. Per the existing Usenet rules alt.support.cancer is limited to
text only.

"The golden rule on Usenet
Do not post binaries to non-binaries groups.
Unless a group lives within alt.binaries it is forbidden to send binary
(non-text) attachments (pictures, sounds, music, movies etc) with a
message."

Replayer is irreponsibly placing advertising for Chinese remedies in the
page thus giving the appearance that they are part of the
alt.support.cancer newsgroup archives:
http://www.usenet-replayer.com/groups/alt.support.cancer.html
"Binary directory of the news group alt.support.cancer from
usenet-replayer"

Here are some reasons why alt.support.cancer is not a binaries group:
http://www.landfield.com/usenet/alt/notes/alt-binaries.html
http://www.exit109.com/~jeremy/news/misplacedbin.html

I do not know how long this has been going on. We need to contact the
operator to see if we can get him to stop misrepresenting this newsgroup.

Registrant:
  Hans Carlos Hofmann
  Friedensstr. 8
  Berghausen
  Asslar, . 35614
  Germany

I do not want to post Hans' email address on the group. To get the email
address go to http://www.whois.sc/usenet-replayer.com and click the line at
the bottom to reveal it.

If you have the time please read the links and email Hans.

I read this yesterday, the site is very misleading. It is not a very good
search engine for binaries either <G>.
My understanding binaries are a way to send audio or video files, most them
are porn sites, am I correct?
Thanks I will send Hans an email, but doubt it may do much  good. It is
awful how people take information we post and use it for profit.

Not all binary groups are bad. There are some woodworking, etc. newsgroups
that show pictures of their work and ask for comments. But there are a lot
of skanky newsgroups also. The name of the group will usually tell what
sort of images you may find there.

He does not like spam or complaints so the email is being bounced at the
whois email address. According to the RFCs he has to provide a working
email address for problems or complaints; i.e.
postmaster@domainname or abuse@domainname
(Substitute usenet-replayer.com for domainname)

Try webmaster@domainname as that is in the link "If you want to
add your service here, please contact the webmaster to get an offer." I
used that email address 15 minutes ago and it has not bounced at the time
this was written.

Not necessarily; they can be useful sources of information
since they are archives for photographs on all sorts of stuff
from e.g. apple growing to zoology.  There are others, of
course, that one might be a little less keen to see...

<quick plug>
news.individual.net does not allow posting to binary groups
and does not even carry them for reading.  It's a useful
safeguard.  Besides which, generally speaking all the stuff
that's posted on binary NGs is sure to come to light with a
quick search through Google's images library etc, so it's not
even needed on Usenet.

Em, I might be feeble minded and/or sleepy at the mo, but why would I post photos of
my ugly sheds on any newsgroup?
Worse yet, why would I Google them?  Wouldn't I remember where I put them?

And no, I haven't peeked in my ugly sheds in the past few days. Should I? If so, why?

Ah.  Sorry, that's my fault.  I thought you were making
reference to another sort of shed entirely.  There's one on
Usenet, you see...

I don't agree with his response:

"This is a historical definition, today within a lot of newgroup containing
binarie stuff without residental in binaries.*"

"Usenet-replayer describes only a newsgroup like it is."

He did fix the page and removed the Chinese medicine ads. There is no
reason to pursue this further, unless the ads return.
