assign your vehicle to a vendor in your area who will contact you to
arrange a date to pick it up. We will then mail your tax information.
* Some restrictions apply. Vehicles must have four inflated tires and
available keys and be in at least fair condition.
Don't wait for the new tax laws to go into effect January 1, 2005take
advantage of great savings when you donate now.
After January 1, 2005
The American Cancer Society, through its vehicle donation programCars for
a Cure®will comply fully with the changes in the law. The current law
allows donors to claim a deduction up to $5,000; above that amount, a
donor can get an independent third party appraisal based on the estimated
retail price to increase the tax deduction. The new provision would limit
tax deductions to $500, or, if above $500, the gross proceeds sale price
of the vehicle. The charity is required to provide the gross proceeds
sales price information to the donor. The new provision also requires
that, if the charity intends to keep the vehicle rather than sell it, the
charity must also provide a statement to that effect. The Cars for a Cure
program will mail a Statement of Receipt after verification that the
vehicle has been picked up. Once the vehicle is sold (which could take up
to two months) the donor will receive a Statement of Donation for the
gross sale price of the vehicle.

Note from me: I donated a vehicle and got a receipt for 5 times more than
the scrap yard would give. I think that's because someone takes the cars
apart and sells the parts separately at auction or the scrapyard.
Something to inquire about if you'd rather do that and keep the money. FYI
and FWIW because I don't know for sure.

WARNING! Be very careful of donating cars. Due to past abuses the
rules were changed for 2005 and beyond. The IRS is now trying to get
much stricter with this stuff.

Scared? I'm not claiming mine.
Perhaps you would contact ACS and advise that their web page should say
"first contact your IRS to find out current laws"?
Iso others don't get caught up this when they read their web page)

Oh please. The medical industry is 1/7th the US economy. I don't think
they need my car. Furthermore about 85% of the budget of the American
Cancer Society goes towards lobbying members of the US house and senate.
You think capital hill is buzzing about curing cancer? At least they
quit sending kids door to door asking for donations, that's about as low
as it gets.

i was going to give to a different cause but
1) the rules changed on jan 1 making it less of a return
2) the mechanic that gave me a second opinion felt that it would hold
awhile longer

Is it that bad, Socks? I know newer cars are often expensive to fix, but
you'd be surprised at various tricks.
I recycled plastic bags, twisted them and pushed them into holes to form a
base for the fibreglass .
Only one slight problem. I could tell you later.
They told me to give up on mine 10 years ago. Like the doctor who gave you
3 months, gosh, were they wrong. She just kept ticking along...
She wouldn't give up. Always started and ran. Except the time the battery
ran out. They told it was the alternator, they were wrong.
Let me know if yours gives out. I'll go get her from the scrap for you. ;-)
Maybe you wouldn't be caught dead <black humour> in her but she's still
running or was..*sigh* I'd have to buy another battery !
