How to Read Pharmaceutical Advertisements

The Lack of Evidence Based Medicine Working Group (in no way
associated with the Evidence Based Medicine Working Group)

* Clinical Scenario
* Are the risks relative or absolute?
* Is the result statistically significant?
* Is the result clinically significant?
* Are the graphs telling the truth?

1. Does the size of the effect shown equal the size of the effect in
the data?
2. Is only a small percentage of the possible event rate displayed?
3. Does the Y-axis start at 0?
4. Does the graph extend beyond the study period?

Much easier algorithm to work with...

I encourage people to "read through the lines" of pharmaceutical claims
and carefully consider side effects and potential risks.

Steph tells them which are curable and which are not...
We've been doing this here for years.

Go talk to your (DHEA) Howard guy on sci.med LOL
He's the "shoes cause cancer theory"...LOL what a hoot you are (having
exchanges with him) !

Despite Zee's rather offensive attitude towards me, I agree with what she
posted in this thread about assessing the evidence objectively

I will reply to you once.

YOURS is the offensive attitude, accompanied as it was by abusive
comments to me following my post to you.

Interesting that your view *blames* the cancer patient for the bad
diagnosis.

Interesting that you think you can come to usenet and brutalize cancer
patients who aren't "your" patient.

"First  do no harm".

You, madam, are seriously deranged.
In what way did I blame any cancer patient for the diagnosis?
What evidence do you have that I am in the pay of the "pharmas"?

Do you understand the term "libel"?

I was agreeing too, including advertisements disguised as "newspaper items"
And the deranged part too.
