Hello Z,
He's 87. At that age, some people only opt for palliative (symptom relief)
care.
He has a right to say "no" to aggressive treatment, if he understands the
situation and everything that's been explained to him.
Maybe there's risks (for him) to the Zometa and Decadron?
If there aren't (risks to him), maybe he would consider those to try and
slow any inflammation or bone destruction?
Perhaps you could ask that of his doctor?
However, if he's informed and made his decision, I wouldn't push too much.;
We can be here if you feel like venting your frustration or questions and we
won't whack you with a newspaper. <smile>

You made me laugh too. Dad died 6? years ago.
But you took me on a trip down memory lane.
When, we kids, started arguing amongst ourselves, he'd slowly roll up the
newspaper (his way of saying "behave yourselves")..
We could hear the sound even from another room.
That was enough for us. That shut us right up <g>
