Forgot myself in the heat  of a different opinion.

It seems so sad to see a nurse attacked here.  I, as a nurse, also pounded
the books, researched and such in order to work within a health system to
help sick people.  I try to use what I have learned to help others. Glad I
had the training when my spouse got sick.

Alex works with cancer patients and I listen to her current knowledge.

When we use and quote what we have learned and  then we are attacked for
learning and going to school, it does not seem fair.
Does everyone hate nurses on this group?  Should there be no nurses? NO
trained personel?

Opinions (or differences of opinions) aren't (necessarily) attacks.
Although some newsgroups can get pretty bad.
This newsgroup is pretty tame comparatively speaking.

I see other professionals (medical or other) on other support newsgroups.
They usually stay "low key" and pop in with helpful information, where they
can.
Not much "diploma" or "professional" "flag waving", unless one wants to (try
to) "pull rank" in the heat of a difference of opinion.

With the exception of one nurse I like nurses.

When I was in my hospital room following the second kidney surgery, I asked
a (temporary) nurse to help me move a little higher up in the bed. She
grabbed my left arm and standing behind me at the top end of the bed pulled
as hard as she could. I had stitches in my left side that felt like they
would tear. That was very painful, in spite of being on a morphine drip at
the time. I spoke to the head of the nurses and detailed my experiences.
The temporary nurse never returned.

On the other hand, the nurses were really great and I appreciate all they
did. In my follow-up visits to Houston my wife and I looked up my nurses
and we personally thanked each one of them. We got some great hugs and big
grins in return. We wrote some nice things about them and posted it on the
bulletin boards. We visited the head nurse and mentioned them by name,
making sure she knew how pleased we were with them. We also told my doctor
(Head of Urology Dept) how much we appreciated the nurses on that floor.

You are not going to like every nurse, you spoke up and it was taken care
of. Alex

Alex,

Do you have a negative outlook? You appear to be focused on the one
exception in my post. Which is OK, but I prefer to focus on the many
positives.

Hi Jerry,

I am glad that your overall experience with nursing care was positive.  Hard
to know why this particular nurse did not seem to have the proper training
in repositioning a patient. Sorry about that.

Thanks for your positive response.
