Hi George,
Just got back from a treatment an hour ago -- 8 hours long. Whew! Had
to say goodbye to all the fine nurses at U PA Philly Abrams cancer
center. I can't over praise them and how kind and helpful they were to
me. My next chemo will be at Fox-Chase in N Philly. They've got an A+
reputation. I'm a little concerned though. My CEA level is now rising
after having bottomed out at around 7. Then moved to 14. Was 42 today.
I hope it's just a fluke and not those tumors getting smarter.

I've seen higher, but I sure don't like the sound of that.
When I saw that, I thought of "doubling time".
Maybe the new centre will run some scans or explain what that means. (unless Steph's around and would
comment)
I was searching for "doubling time" and the word CEA.. and only found this

You are going to another fine facility, don't be too spooked if you levels
change with a new lab sometimes the calibrations are different and they have
different references ranges.
About your co-pay, is it something you are going to pay anyways again this
year? Check to see if the copay is applied to when the serviced is done or
when it was billed. Check with customer support at the insurance company.

Hey Joe,
I know you are sorry to change to a new facility, but give the folks at the
new facility a good shot - if they are rated that highly, they probably have
done more than a few things to deserve it.
Like you I don't like the sounds of your CEA moving higher, but my Oncologist
was always warning me not to read everything into the CEA numbers, that they
were AN indicator, not definitive. She said that many things can affect
those numbers and that a scan did best at figuring out what was going on.
That notwithstanding, how bout I put in some knee time for you and ask that
this is just a fluke? I'm sure God will understand. All the best.
George
