I have been mostly lurking here, due to personal health problems (thyroid
enlargement) and to family cancer incidents.

My son-in-law (only 48) had sigmoid surgery for an estimated 7 cm cancer
this afternoon.  It was found by a routine medical exam and colonoscopy
elected because of family history. (His father has a colostomy)

They found a smaller lesion than expected, looking "new" in appearance, and
were able to remove that part of the intestional tract and stitch him up.
There was no need for a colostomy at this time.

The original biopsy was positive for cancer, but they feel all was removed.
They will do further testing on the tissue removed and decide then about
possible chemo. follow up.

For the present very good news.

Thanks eveline.
No radiation therapy? or it's not called for in his situation?

Thanks for checking up on me, Steph.
Please confirm for those researching and the archives.
It's an important to know location of colorectal cancer, yes?
In other words, don't be trying to search on the phrase "sigmoid cancer"
