Asbestos at SolFest - 16 Sep 2004 18:26 GMT
Anyone who has visited SolFest, the alternative energy festival
in Hopland, California, should be aware that they may have
been exposed to natural asbestos. It was in the rear area of the parking lot
but the wind probably carried the fibers throughout the local area
including the SolFest main site. The air-quality district has verified that
the crumbly serpentine rocks in the rear parking area contain more than the legal
limit of asbestos. The type of cancer that one gets from asbestos is called
mesothelioma, and it takes 10-20 years to appear.

Cancer caused by asbestos requires chronic exposure.
Why frighten people unnecessarily?
Mike - 17 Sep 2004 18:30 GMT
Here's some good info on Asbestos exposure and cancer risk. Often
people are exposed in home remodel or demoltion, or working in
construction trades, auto (brake pads) or pipe insulation. Most modern
exposure is due to disturbing materials during home remodel/demo. Read
here for some excellent information:

http://www.netmed.com/links/asbestos-exposure.htm

Some materials include asbestos tile, asbestos siding, pipe
insulation, plaster from certain time periods, etc/ There are
naturally ocurring occassions like mentioned in this email as well,
but not likely as serious.

Incorrect. No minimum exposure has been determined yet.
This is according to the US EPA and numerous researchers.

No minimum is known, but almost everyone has had some exposure to asbestos
in the western world. They aren't all dropping from mesothelioma.
Go and enjoy your 15 minutes of notoriety elsewhere

Steph the continual pessimist continues to not want to make a simple phone
call
to prove to herself and others that there is a Canadian company with natural
products that will assist in chemo and radio therapies, makes them work
better,
reduces energy loss, reduces side effects, prevents cancer, reverses cancer,
and she refuses to
read the Canadian and US medical patents for these products.
So
Why put so much faith in replies from "Steph'??

Steph is more right than wrong.  There have been a few cases of intense
expsoure for some months and years, but the principal method of exposure is
workplace exposure combined with smoking.  It's true there is no safe
threshhold, but that's like saying someone could get killed in an automobile
accident at 5 miles per hour.
