Hi everyone

I'm new to this newsgroup but not to cancer. Have beaten it twice
now. I'm looking for a website and or newsgroup that deals with Bone Marrow
Transplants, since I have had one almost a year and 8 months ago and doing
ok. Should I stay here and vent or does anyone know of a specific newsgroup?
Yes there is hope for all, I wish everyone all the best and remember it
really is ok for big boys to cry. Trust me it helped me allot.

Hi there,
There seems to be a newsgroup called bit.listserv.transplant
See if it will come up when you try to subscribe in your newsreader. (same way
as you did this newsgroup).
I only had a chance at a quick look (through the Google newsgroup archives).
There seems to be bone marrow transplant persons posting there, along with many
other kinds of transplants.  If you decide it's not for you (after looking
through some of the posts), it can simply be deleted from your newsgroup list.
I did see several, one from Ontario posting there. If you have problems
accessing the resources (below), perhaps, if you post, they can help you through
it or clarify which resource is for what.

The 2 bone marrow websites in our FAQ are http://www.marrow.org/ and
http://www.nbmtlink.org/net.asp
I haven't had a chance to look through the first web page for "connections" but
that latter one has several mail lists or listserv's   One is BM-talk which can
also be accessed here http://www.acor.org/ (mailing lists, then under B).

Hope this helps.

No not tough just extremely lucky to have three excellent Drs.in town and
several in Toronto and a wife and family that has been extremely supportive.
First cancer was lymphoma about nine years ago, second was leukemia in my
bone marrow about 1yr and 8 months ago. My oldest sister was what they deem
a perfect match but still fighting with the side effects. All the drugs your
on, and the graft vs. host disease that keeps popping up wears me out.
However still improving daily. Your right you can survive but your always
fighting.

It's good to hear that you're improving daily. You are indeed a survivor to have
battled two cancers.
Which type of lymphoma did you have?  A friend in Calgary has CNS lymphoma. If I
recall correctly, they used her own stem cells so AFAIK she doesn't have to take
the anti-rejection meds.  So far, she doesn't post here, but might be reading.
She's had some lung and chronic cold problems and I think I just read that, at
some point, she may have to redo her immunizations.  She had quite a tough time
with the chemo, then the stem cell (last Fall), but she's improving now with
residual peripheral neuropathy /weakness in one arm.  She's in wait mode as to
what they'll suggest next, since there was only a partial response.

We don't get a lot of survivors here (at least, not on a regular basis).
I expect it's because they mostly like to move on with their lives.
So, good to hear from you.
Best,
J

Well the first lymphoma was a stage 3B Hodgkin's, chemo alone got ride of
that one; unfortunately the one chemo drugs that was in the protocol I was
subjected to, had a nasty little side effect of causing leukemia. My body
just went for a trip and I never even left the building! So to make a long
story short I had a Bone Marrow Transplant. My eldest sister was a match,
however the side effects and the problems that come along with it are a bit
tiring. I'm on one hell of a pile of drugs, Adavan to Zanax with about 14
others in-between. I try to inspire others that you have to fight!! I see
cancer everyday, not just in my own mind but in my children's lack of a dad
for two years, and a wife, whom is a loving caring oncology nurse ( guess
where I met her). So that's my story so far; people say I'm tough, no not
really just Happy.
