Hi group.  It's me again after all this time. Was searching old posts
and see that Steph is still here. Also Mike R.  Hi guys. And who could
forget John S.  Hey John, that chip on your shoulder must be getting
heavy.  Couldn't believe it when I saw some recent posts by you.
Thought you'd be long gone.

My signature should make a long story short.  Just searching for some
answers, maybe a miracle or two...
Chin up,

Mary Guidry

Welcome back Mary,
Mike thinks my memory is good. I see in Google you were here around the
same time as Don Sterner.
I do remember him, but would have to look a bit more (allocate more time)
over your prior posts.
Your father had cancer?

Anyhow, things have changed somewhat here. We now have an extensive FAQ
and newsgroup Charter.
With which we try to keep trouble off the newsgroup.
If that's the John S. I think it is, it's perhaps better not to bait him
into posting here.

I do believe there are others here on Avastin or hoping to be.
I wish you well in your search for answers.
Elsie's around. She has rectal cancer IIRC

Keep in touch and let us know how it's going.
Best,
J

Hi J, yep, I joined this group when dad was diagnosed 1996 with merkel
cell.  He's still kickin' but not high.  Me and my Darryl have been
riding the roller coaster for 2 years now.  Lots of new medicine since
the beginning of our journey.  We start Camptosar next week and
Avastin will be added the next. The reasoning is so if/when side
effects happen, they will know which drug to blame.  The nurse told
Darryl that he awesome upbeat attitude will make a big difference too.
Was searching through the old posts and hated to see that you guys
lost Lowkey.  God he could make me smile.
take care, may

Yup, my ears perked up when I heard of somebody else with stage III
rectal cancer.  Hi Mary - say hi to Darryl from me...

I'm much earlier in that game than Darryl, though.  I was just
diagnosed in May of 2003, had chemo/radiation in the summer of 2003,
surgery in September of 2003 and more radiation in November of 2003.

I REALLY hate to hear that Darryl's cancer managed to rear its ugly
head again and you can be sure that I'll be following your quest for a
miracle very closely - unfortunately not for entirely altruistic
reasons...

Hi Elsie, I'm so glad to meet you.  We've been ridin' this roller
coaster for 2 years now and we're just about tired of it.  Darryl
started chemo today with Camptosar and 5FU and insisted on driving
himself (200 miles roundtrip).  It was futile to argue with him, he
doesn't want me to lose my job by taking so much time off, but this
job means diddly if he was to have a bad reaction to the Camptosar and
not be able to drive.  I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear
from him.  The radiation was the worst in Darryl's case, he tolerated
the chemo must easier.  So what's your status?  Are you doing okay?
Take care,
Mary

Hi Mary,

I hope Darryl got back from chemo OK...

I don't think I would have driven myself back and forth 200 miles on
the first day of chemo, but hey, more power to him :-)

My Dad took me the first time, after that I drove myself, but it's
only 5 miles or so round trip.

I've tolerated everything well so far.  I worked through the 5 weeks
of radiation and chemo before surgery, then had the surgery that left
me with a j-pouch as well as a temporary ileostomy bag and was off 6
weeks.  Started working again qand proceeded to work through the next
4 months of chemo again.  I threw up one single time on my very last
chemo session.  In March of this year, the ileostomy was reversed and
I'm now getting used to the j-pouch.

It's all right most of the time.  I have trouble occasionally because
I insist on eating and drinking whatever I want.  Then I often regret
it when it makes its way through.  One of the problems is that I have
these cluster BMs (Dr.s term) that are a major pain.  It's supposed to
get better with time, though.

My CEA never went up or down with the tumor or with chemo. (I wonder
if that means that the marker will never work as an indicator for me,
or could the counts go up in the future?) I'm supposed to have my
first CAT scan in July.  I'm a little nervous about that, but we'll
see - can't do anything about it either way anyway....

I hope that you and Darryl are doing OK,
Elsie
