Hi Morgs,
Try to stay positive and hopeful, you'll get thru this difficult time.
My mom had another colonoscopy last week to check for any other cancers
past her mid sigmoid, all clear.
However they moved up surgery about a week for fear that she might block. My
mom goes in this Wednesday
morning for her colon cancer surgery. I've decided on minimally evasive
laparoscopic surgery since I've got her
one of best surgeons who has done hundreds of these. I'll say a prayer for
BAZ and you.
BTW, J (if you read this)can a CAT scan show enlarged lymph nodes like an
MRI did for BAZ?
The CAT scan report said no metastasis identified. Does this mean the lymph
nodes look okay?
Regards,
MAC

Thanks, MAC, and we will say prayers for you and your mum. I wish her the
best of luck and a smooth surgery and that you maintain that optimism--the
pair of you need it. I am so glad she was cleared past the
mid sigmoid.

An interesting question, because the CAT scan didn't report anything but
Baz's tumor--it was only after looking at the MRI that the radiologist noted
the lymphs.
Best,
Morgs

Here's my non-expert understanding....
"no identifiable mets" does not mean there's no "micro mets" (hence why the
chemo and/or radiation)
CAT (or MRI or PET) scans can show enlarged lymph nodes, but enlarged lymph
nodes are not necessarily cancerous.
The reverse is probably true.
Hence, a surgeon removes the tumor along with part of the healthy colon or
rectum and nearby lymph nodes.
I don't know how many they remove and/or it may vary.
The scans may tell them how many they "must" remove.
I think the scans show them identifiable distant mets (of the imaged area).
So the scans help them to know what possibly might be but the pathology report
is the 99.9%
(again my non-expert understanding) so check with your doctors or see if Steph
or Peter Moran reply.

Thanks J.
I just got the phone call, surgery is tomorrow at 7:00am Wednesday morning
, must be there by 5:45am.
They will also be doing an MRI on her liver right before surgery as a
precaution to look deeper into the tissue
even though the CAT scan showed all is normal. I also spoke with her Doctor
today and the chest x-rays from
last week show all is normal. Hooray!!!!
