My brother had a colonoscopy done and they removed several polyps. My
question is, does he have the right to receive a copy of the biopsy
report or reports on these polyps, whatever the results are? Also, do
they keep this biopsy report or reports in his medical records for life?
Thank you

yes, of course. Some places may charge a nominal fee.

Don't know. Also the further out from medical reports, the harder it often
is to get them, if they've been sent to storage or destroyed (after maybe a
number of years), so another reason to ask for them now.

This is absolutely correct. You are entitled to a copy, and should
request it and have it for your own files. You may have to fight for it,
but you are entitled to it. Also, don't count on any medical records
being at any doctor's office or hospital for more than 1-3 years. I
request a copy of every single blood test result, every biopsy report,
and I ask for the actual films from every xray,CT, or MRI that I've ever
had. They will get discarded if you leave them in the doc's office
sooner or later.

Records in a cancer clinic in Canada are kept by law at least 5 years, and
in effect indefinitely.
Patients are entitled to copies of any of the chart they want, by law
The HIPAA privacy rule states that patients are entitled to see all their
medical records. They also have the right to request changes. The law
states that patients must put their request in writing and if the medical
records are stored onsite, they have 30 days to produce them. If they are
offsite, they have 60 days. This is a Federal Law in the US. If you are
elsewhere, oops!
