Friends,
Baz (my husband) had an MRI today. He's scheduled to see his surgeon on
Monday to review the results. The surgeon has said he wants to perform an
APR (if theMRI bears out his suspicions that the tumor is located too low
for another procedure). Baz would then have a permanent colostomy.

In your opinion, should we seek a second opinion before the procedure is
performed? There are other local doctors, and there is an NCI hospital about
100 miles away, but my husband doesn't understand why he should go elsewhere
for help. Thanks for your time.
Best,
Morgs

For cancers less than 6cm from the anal canal, APR is almost always needed.
For cancers above 8cm, an APR is almost always avoidable. Some surgeons are
better at low cancers - if you can find a surgeon who specialises in rectal
cancer, an opinion wouldn't harm.

Thank you _so much_ Steph.
The surgeon didn't say how close the tumor was to the canal, but I will
certainly find out.
Best,
Morgs
