Worried...

Two years ago I was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. I
broke all my ribs down the right side, suffered a collapsed lung,
a lung infection, septicaemia and they opened me up to check my
diaphram only to find they had actually punctured my liver with a
lung drain. I've recovered (to a fashion), but now I have other
problems some of which are worrying me...

When I first came home from hospital, I periodically suffered
severe cramp-like pains (but not actually cramp) inside my lower
abdomen, towards the right hand pelvic bone. They eventually
stopped but now they've returned, and the pain is different.
Bowel movements have changed and the pain seems linked to that
fact. I also get pains around the kidneys (both sides) and at its
worst, the pain shoots down from the abdomen to include the
testis (mainly the right side). I am also feeling lethargic,
tired, and I get a feeling inside my stomach that's like the
knitting feeling you get when a broken bone heals, or when a cut
or bruise heals.

My doctor (UK cash-strapped NHS) has just palmed me off with some
pills for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), but I'm worried it's
something else...   :(

OK, I guess I was looking for some advice or comments, perhaps I
picked the wrong group.  My apologies.

No one can diagnose you over the internet. You have presumably had lots of
xrays and tests while in hospital and nothing gros sly abnormal was found in
your abdomen, apart from a lung drain in your liver.
You will have suffered a lot of soft tissue damage to your internal organs
including , probably, damage to the ligaments holding everything in place. I
guess this could have caused generalised aches and pains and change in
function for some time after the accident.
You will also have been under considerable stress with some long lasting or
permanent effects. These could certainly cause changes in bowel function
with associated cramping etc.
If there is nothing clinically evident maybe you could try some
relaxation, massage and associated therapies. Can't do any harm may do some
good.

Yes, but that was almost two years ago. There have been no tests
done for the last eighteen months, and these particular 'pains'
started very recently, within three weeks. I also had at least
ten blood transfusions and now we have a CJD scare here in the UK
which prevents blood recipients from giving blood due to possible
infection/exposure.  :(

That certainly makes sense, and I hadn't considered "damage to
the ligaments holding everything in place", quite so clearly as
you put it, thank you.

Thanks again.
