My mother completed her first round of chemotherapy last week for her
small cell lung cancer.  Over the weekend she has problems with
painful and frequent urination and her doctor prescribed antibiotics
over the phone thinking she might have a kidney infection.  It didn't
get any better over the weekend, so I took her to her oncologist
today.

When I picked her up she said she felt 40% better than she did on
Monday.  My mother went back for her appointment by herself and when
she came out an hour later, she said they told her they didn't think
it was a kidney reaction but instead a reaction to the chemotherapy
and if she didn't continue to get better to call back immediately.

She said her main complaints so far are tiredness and the urination
problem.  She hasn't gotten nauseated from the chemotherapy but she
has no appetite.  I told her she has to make herself eat and we went
grocery shopping after her appointment.

Her next round of chemotherapy will be the week after next, probably
starting on April 21st.

Hi Kim,
I wonder if she's having bladder spasms or inflammation?

They (bladder) may be mentioned with other types of chemos (there).
So have a look under whichever chemo(s), your mother is getting.

There's different medicines for one or the other.

My sister got a kidney or urinary tract infection (can't remember which) while
on chemo.  In her case, the dr said that you are just more prone to infections
while on chemo.  She was given antibiotics but then had to be hospitalized with
IV antibiotics but was fine in a few days.It did not recur.
