Not use to asking people for help, but I really don't know what else to do.

My mother was diagnose about 2 weeks ago with lung cancer. A part of it
travelto the brain
and cause a tumor there. Last tuesday the operated and removed the tumor in
the brain.

Although the operation was a success, she is recovering slowely. It have
benn just 9 days
and she has movement of her left side but not her right. She can understand
what we are saying, but cannot speak.

The Doctors are saying her brained swelled because of the operation and it
is normally.
They also say it will just take some time to recover.

I am trying hard to keep her spirits up but I don't think is is working.

I am just glad I can shed her from negative stuff like the Hospital and
thier Insurnace questions. She was married to my dad for over 20 years, but
Tricare is slow on theball in
saying she is eligably for it. Other then that she has no insurnace as most
of us in the US
make very little money and cannot afford it. I am hoping that if Tricare
fails then maybe
the settlemt from the tobacco companies can help. Don't know ere to check
that at..

MY mother is 60 and started smoking at 20.. So she has been smoking for 40
years!
When she started there were no warning on smoking, by the time the did warn,
she like many others were HOOKED! She tried to stop and was able to cut down
to 1/2 pack a day, but I guess it was too addicting to stop all the way, not
to mention we now found out that when people started to quit smoking, the
tobacco compaines just made there product more addictive by added more stuff
to it...

Anyhow,
I was hoping if she started getting cards from people sharing a prayer or 2,
maybe that would help her get a more postive outlook?

I truely beleive that is you keep a postive faith, you can overcome
anything.

So, if it is not to much to ask can you send a card to:

Ingrid Hillery
5421 Lake Luther Rd
Lakeland FL 33809

I will make sure she gets then, by reading them to her myself!

Also, if you could email this message to freind you think have a kind heart
and would also like to send a card, please do.

Thanks,

John Hillery Jr.

Update, My mom has gotten some movement back onher left side.
They had her put her own glasses on and swap her tongue with a spounge.

She still can't speak nor move her right side.

They did a test to make sure she could eat, while she was eaten what was fed
to her, they said some of it was not going to the stomach, and therefore
needs to get a tube in her stomach.

Q. can't the tube that is presently given her stuff via the nose to the
stomach, give her the same "ensure" stuff liquid??

Like most we are having problems getting Tricare, Medicad, and Socail
Security to steponthe ball and get the bills paid.

It seems like they are now trying to get us to take her straight home,
wereas before the were talking about another week or 2 in the hospital then
to a rehab for some time????

Are they trying to get her out because the bill are not being paid, it is
not our fault that the government is moving so slow : (

Even if it could (which I assume it cannot), they are concerned that foods or
liquids are (would be) getting into her lungs.

Talk to her doctor(s) and/or the Social Worker at the hospital.
Perhaps they think she needs hospice care now.
I do not know medicare/medicaid issues because I'm in Canada, but there's an
explanation here and it seems to be your same State.

(it's just an example. if the doctor says it's time for hospice, work with the
social worker). If there's none at the hospital, talk to Social Services in your
State.

These are some resources that may be helpful to you.

http://www.patientadvocate.org/ Patient Advocate Foundation is a national
non-profit organization that serves as an active liaison between the patient and
their insurer, employer and/or creditors to resolve insurance, job retention
and/or debt crisis matters relative to their diagnosis through case managers,
doctors and attorneys. Patient Advocate Foundation seeks to safeguard patients
through effective mediation assuring access to care, maintenance of employment
and preservation of their financial stability.
