             THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS
SUGGESTS A LIST OF QUESTIONS FOR YOU TO ASK WHEN
             YOUR DOCTOR RECOMMENDS SURGERY.

1. What indications have led your doctor to suggest an operation?
2. What, if any, alternative treatments are available?
3. What will be the result if you do not have surgery?
4. What are the basic procedures?
5. What are the risks?
6. How can the operation improve your health or quality of life?
7. How long will you be in the hospital?
8. What can you expect for your recovery period?
9. When can you resume normal activities?
10. What effects will there be from the operation?

Your very concise list is a breath of fresh air when one is confronted
by the realities of cancer treatments.

Thank you.
