Can anyone explain the politics of this news group to me?? I was under the
impression that this is a support group, to help support those suffering
with cancer, their families and those who have lost someone.
Instead there seems to be hidden and not so hidden agendas played out here
on a daily basis.
Why? Is cancer not enough? Is the battle to survive not sufficient? Is
mourning a mere blip? It would appear so. I am sooo obviously missing the
real point.

Sinead,
I am sorry that you are getting caught up in the bickering. Lots of support
is available here. It's just that some of us are tired of trolls sneaking
in here and taking up space that is better used. Please keep writing and
reading. Unfortunately, there will always be some here that don't
understand the meaning of support and will try to torment and confuse the
person who is seeking it. Try to keep up your trust that we are here for
you, you will learn soon enough who is friend and who is troll.
Hugs for now, I will keep you in my thoughts.

Hi Sinead,
Theoretically there isn't any politics on this newsgroup, it is here purely
to offer support and comfort, unfortunately others derive some perverse
pleasure out of others pain, and sometimes this gets under the skin of those
that really do care, I personally don't usually bother retaliating but have
on this occasion because the particular troll was making things personal.
You are quite right, cancer is the main battle and all others are
superfluous but sometimes we also reach the end of our tether.
Don't ever let a twat put you off a really supportive newsgroup.
Hugs

Hi Sinead
What amazes me is that just because my wife is using alternative methods to
treat her brain tumor we have been made to feel that we are not welcomed by
some on this group.
Does the method of treatment dictate what sort of support is offered?
Why should those who choose natural therapies be put on the defensive
because of their choices for treatment?
Should those who have cancer and use natural treatments be excluded from
emotional support?
Is wanting a more integrated health system which is not afraid to go beyond
the current standard treatments somehow a 'hidden agenda?'
I do not wish to offend anyone with my posts, only let others know that
there are effective natural treatments, as my wife's continued improvement
shows.
Regards,
Marc

Below inserted: from post, "Interesting Site."
You mention that 'unproven' alternative medicine will not cure cancer.
Unproven does not necessarily translate into ineffective, just as when the
practice of washing the hands between patients was seen as an 'unproven'
method for preventing cross-infections, but did this mean that it was not
effective?
You see, my friend, simply because something is not understood does not make
it invalid.
Have fun, it could change your life!

Part of the support you get here is 'filtering' or warning of quacks trying
to peddle 'alternative' treatments and 'special' diets, among other things.
There is little anyone can do to stop this....free speech and all.... but
peolple like J and Steph will caution the inexperienced, vulnerable and
gullible.
No one can stop you believing the quacks but at least you do so with all
the arguments.
I suggest where you find these 'wars' going on you possibly read he first
one or two exchanges and if you are convinced one way or the other ignore
all following posts otherwise you will waste hours of valuable time...and
for most posters looking for support their time is much too valuable to
waste.
