Hello,
Most of the people here seem to be on some or the other form of
medication after completing their primary treatment for cancer. My mom
finished her primary treatment 6 months before; but she never was
prescribed any medication after that. She was er/pr -ve and her2 -ve
too. I guess thats not that common?
Am I just obsessing too much? Is it ok not to have any medication
prescribed at all?
Thanks.

That's right.  I think about 25% of cancers do not have excess estrogen
receptors etc, and in those cases there is little benefit in prescribing
hormone therapy.  Right now she does not have cancer, so there is no cause
for any intervention.  Remember that the hormone therapy prescribed to
others is a prophylaxis, they are taking it 'just in case' the cancer tries
to recur, not to cure an existing condition.

Basically, your mom had the standard treatment protocol for the breast cancer
that she had.  I do understand your concerns.  One often wonders if the
conditions that allowed the cancer to occur  in the first place are still going
on.
As far as I know there are no approved medications for her type of b.c. to be
given after standard treatment.  That, however, does not mean that there isn't
anything else that can be done.  Many are exploring CAM's--complimentary and
alternative medications--many of which are being scientifically researced at
this time.  You might want to try and do a web search.  One place to start is
to go to google and type in: statin and "breast cancer" or lovastatin and
"breast cancer" or even endostatin and "breast cancer"  You can also search out
cox 2 inhibitors such as celebrex which according to latest research has
anti-tumor properties and may help prevent recurrence.  Again type in: celebrex
"breast cancer"  Also some people are looking at the prophylactic use of the
antibiotics doxycycline or tetracycline.  Again type that in with breast
cancer.   If you have any  ?'s or would like more info, let me know.  Take care
and wishing your mom all the best!
