Anne - 22 Apr 2004 16:42 GMT Can anyone tell me if there have been any promising studies or advances in treatment for Estrogen negative breast cancer?

alexk - 23 Apr 2004 02:04 GMT Bad news I was with estrogen neg in 1997, and little to no results has been done all this time, In the Dana Farber newsletter they are now looking for grant money to start research for ER/PR neg breast cancer therefore no advances or new studies that I have been able to find. I was diagnosed at age 40 which I was told it was common for young women to have aggressive cancer that does not respond to hormone therapy. Sorry to depress you. Alex

It's not for me. I'm asking for a friend. I get surgery next Thursday. I don't know if I'm pos or negative yet. The odds are negative though.

Pat from Apple Valley, CA - 24 Apr 2004 20:22 GMT Alex, Well over the past year the markers have gone from 120 to 1300, This is telling me that something is going on..I have for quite awhile had some sore spots on the back of my head, which the Onc said was not causing the rise, I have no symptoms other than MAYBE and that is a BIG maybe, feeling a little more tired at the end of the day... That also just might be my imagination...My onc decided after the markers got to 120 not to give me the test at the 4 month checkup. So it took about 8 months to get to the 1300 mark. He said the tests just worry us. Like I didn't worry about not knowing..So now I am mad at him for not getting started earlier on treatment, Whatever that can be..I finished my chemo regimen in Oct of 2000. A/C, rads, Taxol...Pat

Pat, is there anyway you can get a second opinion? I know the following are not exactly close, but wouldn't think they were that impossible---City of Home in Duarte, Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, or even Norris Cancer Center at USC? Take care and wishing you the best. {{{Hugs}}}
Pat from Apple Valley, CA - 25 Apr 2004 03:43 GMT I am going to wait to see what is found in the scans. I welcome the hugs, I may need them ...I'll let you know the outcome... I did look up Loma Linda( the closest) online, but didn't find any reference to cancer, such as trials and such..And I passed the City of HOpe on my way to Pasadena to see my Mom, so it isn't that far from here...My results will be known May 4th...Pat

I am assuming you are her/2 neg. Which tumor markers is elevated ? CEA, CA-125 ? They have a history of false positives but with a rise that high sometime is going on ( maybe not breast cancer related). It would be hard to convince an oncologist to give chemo based on this test alone with out some clinical symptoms. The current standard for treating breast cancer is aggressive initial treatment and then only symptomatic treatment if recurrence happens, although more and more women are now looking for treatment of met disease when it is in it's earliest stages. Physicians state there is not an data to support early treatment of met disease since the outcomes are all the same, But with that being said I don't think I could sit passively by knowing I had something going on. I wish you the best.

Pat from Apple Valley, CA - 26 Apr 2004 03:42 GMT That was the CA27.29, or is it 25.29..Can't ever keep it straight. He keeps saying the same things you have said, but did agree that with the big jump that something was going on..We'll See..Tomorrow are the bone and CT scans with results on the 4th..Yes I am er neg..and I had Lobular. I can't guess at what kind of treatment I would want to have. Right now I am just trying to get some sleep at night and not cry everytime I see myself in the mirror..I'll keep you-all posted...Pat

Let's hope your restricted angle of view etc. gave you a false impression of what was being recorded. I know waiting for the report is absolutely unbearable. Fingers crossed.

PS. Please set your browser to 'plain text' rather than 'html' for news posts. 1. Some news readers can't read html, or not well. 2. Once people start using html, then they start adding sound and stationery and so on, then the volume of data bloats, and then servers decide not to bother carrying this newsgroup any more.

I did not know that, thanks Tim. She may be too upset (I think I asked her before). Her headers indicate Netscape 5.0 and Netscape 7.1 So if she's reading, in my Netscape version it's under Edit, Preferences, News (is probably where she is to set the "plain text"), then click ok and/or save. Pat from Apple Valley, CA - 28 Apr 2004 02:08 GMT Ok Tim, Hope this is fixed. I was thinking that if you chose both html and plain text that it would send what was appropriate for the situation...Guess I have to make a decision...Don't want to jeopardize the NG.. I did talk to the operator and she asked me if my head hurt....Said they would put the CT and bone scan together and check it out... Thanks for the thoughts...Pat

Yes. Below is an abstract from a recent article which specifically discusses how the following is helpful for ER- breast cancer, although there isn't much info about er- in the abstract. If you would like more info relating to such, email me.

I'll keep posting. I did listen to http://www.cancercare.org/ yesterday. The topic was "Innovations in the Hormonal Treatment of Advanced BC." and there were no new Innovations for Er neg. Tho there may be some trials. You can,listen to the topic online. There have been several of the educational topics on BC..and other types of cancer, also.. on the right hand side of the page is the topic Telephone Education Workshops..check it out....Thanks for your thoughts. Tuesday is the day...Pat
