Hi Group,
I have to have a pelvic ultrasound and a mini d and c for bleeding that has
occurred more than twenty years after chemopause.  It began and stopped
after about a week.  Had led up to this bleed with some spotting.  I don't
know whether it's cancer related or not.  Could be any number of benign
causes and I'm trying hard to believe that all will be well, but.......

You all know the niggling fear that enters after experiencing a cancer
diagnosis (even 20 years later)!

The d and c part comes next Tuesday, so there is a bit of a wait
here....hate the waiting!

Anyone else experience bleeding after a chemo induced menopause?
Incidentally, I'm feeling very hormonal.  This is probably about the age of
a normal menopause.  Maybe those hormones are giving one last hurrah?

Thanks for any responses and for reading.

Yup.  I had some spotting, so had an inconclusive (and kinda
uncomfortable) endometrial biopsy, went on to a "borderline" ultrasound,
and finally had a D&C hysteroscopy.  All clear!

Hope you have equally satisfactory results . . . do let us know?

Hello Ann,

Thanks for responding.  I've also had the hysteroscopy a few years ago when
the cause for a similar bleed couldn't be found.  It too was clear.  A day
or so later, a bit of lab work came back that indicated that I was pretty
severely hypothyroid.  The medication for that took care of the bleeding.
This time, the TSH is within normal limits.

Had the ultrasound today, but don't know anything yet, of course.  The tech
was really nice and answered as much as she was allowed to answer.  The
ultrasound will be read by a radiologist.

Thanks for the well wishes.  I must wait for the mini d and c.  Hope there
will be something to know at the time that is done.  In the meantime, I'm
trying to practice all that advice I give about not jumping to
conclusions....easier said than done!

Best wishes to you.
Barb

Bara, it sounds to me like your body is giving that ONE LAST HURRAY.  You
don't say what age you are but 20 years after chemo and now supposedly
hormonal you must have been fairly young when you had chemo.  I had bleeding
one year after finishing chemo, then about 6 months later and nothing more
since.  That was 11 years ago.  Your hormone levels can be checked with a
blood test.  Hope you get your results of your ultrasound soon.

Hi Jo,
I was 35 at the time of my mastectomy and chemo, and I think I'm at about
the right age for a "natural" menopause.  I surely hope that this is just
result of stopping Evista (for osteoporosis) or the final fling. I'll know
about the ultrasound at next Tuesday's appointment with my GP.  Interesting
that she didn't mention checking hormone levels.  Thanks for writing.
Wishing you well.

Hi Barb,

I kept bleeding here and there post-chemopause, then had a suspicious
pelvic u/s (possible complex mass), and finally a laparotomy. Turned out to
be a scarred fallopian tube from an old bout of PID. Phew!

I'm glad you had a good outcome.....There's nothing like the wait between
symptoms, tests and results, huh?  I've had both the ultrasound procedure
(found a fibroid) and the endometrial biopsy.  That's the one I'm waiting
for....Should know in 10-14 days.  In the meantime, the PAP came back ok.
I'm trying to believe that there are any number of possible benign causes .
Feel fine physically, if a little stressed mentally!  Anyway, thanks for
replying.  It helps to hear from folks.
