Hello all. My wife's undergoing bone scan, bone density, and chest x-rays
this week to check on shoulder/knee pain, and persistent dry cough. (Post
Stage IIb, 6 months A/C + Taxotere finished 7/2003).
My question: in the U.S., which medical report are available to us, from a
legal standpoint?
Thanks in advance,
Scott

I can't say I know totally for certain-sure, but I think they all are. I
believe they're premitted to charge (if necessary) a reasonable copying
fee.
In practice, I've never had the slightest difficulty in getting any of
my doctors (med onc, rad onc, surgeon, D.O., ob/gyn, primary care . . .)
to give me copies of pathology reports, blood tests, scan reports, etc.,
at no charge.
I now have quite an impressive collection <g>!

In addition to all medical reports being available, although there may be a
copying charge, all films are available as well. I believe that bone scans,
MRI's, and PET scans are on CD's. However, I don't know if the CD is available
or if you can only get hard, black and white copies of the films.

Hi, Scott -
In all states medical records are the property of the provider, not
the patient.
Some states require healthcare providers to give you copies of records
if you ask for them but they are allowed to charge you a bit for
copying. Like others here I've had no problem getting records just by
asking for them.
Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. I know I should have started this earlier, but
realize now that I was thinking 'let's just get through this, and put it
behind us." It's becoming a longer journey than I had expected.
Take care,
Scott

So very true, and well there can be so much more. This is way different than
the flu or even having a simple cyst removed. I wish it were otherwise, and,
perhaps someday it will be that way...

It can be a long journey, Scott. Deborah and I have been doing this
dance for almost 4 1/2 years and there are quite a few people here
who've been doing it longer than we have.
Keep asking questions - the people in this group know everything there
is to know about anything. It's pretty convenient, really ;-)
Hang in there -
