Only time will tell. It is possible, if you can find no reason why you
should have any bruising or damage in that area. Of course it could just be
a pulled muscle or something. How long has it been going on? Have you had
a bone scan, if so how long ago? Didn't you just have angioplasty, any
possibility it could be related to that (although I admit I don't see how
right now)?

Hi Tim , The pain is about 2 weeks old much the same time I came out of
hospital hard to say if the angoplasty has caused it as was on the left side
but have a younger brother that has had the same procedure he tells me he
had pain after , hope that's all it is , had bone scan in August all was
clear , Thanks Tim Take Care balsey

Lets hope. 2 weeks isn't long enough to establish a diagnosis of mets, and
"clear in August" sounds rather recent for it to go off like this. I'd say
the odds are it's something else. Like Ann T says, intercostals (those nice
meaty bits on barbequed ribs) are prone to doing this sort of thing if
abused. You can for example overload the contralateral ones unexpectedly by
favouring the injured side.
Fingers crossed.

There are a number of "normal" things that can cause quite severe rib
pain, particularly if the onset was sudden. The intercostal muscles
(between the ribs) are kinda funny critters that way.
I hope it will turn out to be something like that, Balsey! Take care,
Ann T.

Hello Balsey,
The chondritis thing is what I first thought of when I read your post. My
daughter had something similar years ago. It cleared after some
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds and a little time. Sorry you are
hurting and hope that it is a passing thing.

she needs to just get an ordinary xray - that's how my mets are handled -
and then hit it with radiation before it eats out the bone....my first met
was in my right ribs - hurt to lie down.
y'can see the met as a dark color in an xray.

Read on Marvin.
1. Balsey was waiting for the x-ray results when she started this thread.
2. They came back negative.
The game was to guess how the results would come out, the consensus was that
it wasn't mets and that seems to have been right.

well you can see them ok if they're big enough to hurt, that fer sure... the
little ones just ache when you lie down - say, ive been taking arimidex
since june 1 and now when i scratch my head there is a spot that sounds
holler...bloody chemo buggered my heart too - left me with swollen ankles
which were getting ulcers on them - a bit of digoxin has fixed them up and
the ulcers are healing if anyone has that problem.

I'm so sorry you have to put up with the pain! (I hope it subsides
soon.) But I'm extremely happy to hear that the pain is not
mets-related as you had feared it might be!
Happy holidays, with best wishes for a speedy recovery from your recent
health challenges,
Ann T.

During most of chemotherapy (2002), I had severe pain in left rib area,
which the doc said was nothing. ??? So far, no mets that I know of.
The pain comes & goes in both rib areas, usually not at the same time, &
can last for weeks.
Right now, my hands, wrists, & fingers on both hands, are extremely
painful.
This might be a result of having had chemotherapy, of my injuries, of
taking estrogen-suppressing medication (such as Femara & Arimidex), & of
cold & damp weather.
I wish I could get good blood-work tests, & could better know &
understand exactly what's going on.
