Possibly because the economic motive for UD to run the Cancer project is as
a demonstration of their grid computing software platform to potential
commercial customers.   While there is not a great demand for Linux-based
grid computing projects, because of the relatively small size of the
installed Linux base in the commercial world, they do not have a great
incentive to progress rapidly in  this direction.  I am sure that their
motives are good, but in the end programmer effort has to be paid for, and
they have to choose where to spend it.

Now of course if a big Chinese organisation were to express commercial
interest in their technology then their priorities might change, but I
suspect that is a chicken and egg conundrum.

PS to a Darwinist the egg came first because the thing the chicken evolved
from laid eggs, but to a creationist the chicken probably came first because
it is a lot easier for the Almighty to create mature creatures and so avoid
the need to create a one-off generation of "nursemaids".
