For some "reason" I was under the impression that wearing perfumes was a
"no no" after being diagnosed with bc.  I thought I had read it on here
and quickly changed to only wearing corn starch baby powder even for
under my arms.

Today, while at my Onc's visit in which I only got to see his nurse
assistant (you know these new "almost like" doctors who are now seeing
patients instead of doctors) and asked her if I could wear perfumes.
She said "of course!" and you can also wear deodorants, too!"

Soooo...... would any of you advise me what you have been told by your
Oncologists?  Are perfumes and deodorants ok for bc patients even if
they have had to have a lot of lymphnodes removed?

I have no idea where I got the idea that I couldn't but I may have
misunderstood something I read here or someplace else.  Thanks for any
information you can share about this.  I would love to be able to go
back to wearing a dab of nice perfume.

I have not been told anything about this by my oncologist.

When I was getting radiation, I was told by the radiation team not to
use antiperspirant/deodorant and/or talc under the arm that was being
radiated - because it would interfere with the treatment.

My physical therapist told me not to use perfumed creams on my arm/
chest because the perfume might be absorbed and impact negatively on
my slight lymphedema.

I have not used deodorant under that arm since - I got bad burns, and
the skin is still (4 months later) much too sensitive.

Antiperspirant generally contains aluminum, and I'm not sure /anyone/
should be using that stuff...

I wear perfume when I feel like it, but only on my "good" side, and
only good perfume.

It WILL return to normal, promise. It could take a long time though.

Thanks for the encouragement, and bon voyage.
