At the risk of disrupting the flow of the more established members
here, I'm writing to this group in hopes of finding some oncologist
advice for my mother. She has just been diagnosed with infiltrating
moderate-growing breast cancer, and we are having a difficult time
choosing a doctor. We live just outside Boston. So far, all we know
is that we want to go with Dana Farber Cancer Institute because their
team is the best and because she's just had outstanding care there for
uterine cancer (yes, her luck has been very bad this summer).
I hoped that someone in this group might have been treated at Dana
Farber and might be able to recommend their specific surgeon. We're
also curious if anyone has been treated at Faulkner Hospital.
Please write back and let me know if you know of anyone that you'd
recommend. We'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
Yours,
Emily

Not at all. I'm new here also, and it's nice to see other new people
using the group.

I'm so sorry for your mother's ordeal, and for you. It must be very
stressful.
Have you considered contacting the doctors/team that gave your mother
her outstanding care recently? That is how I found my doctors (medical
oncologist, surgeon and radiation oncologist) - by asking a MD I know
and trust: "Who would you pick to treat your wife (mother) for breast
cancer? I got some very good leads, and have nothing but praise and
gratitude for my treatment team.

Sorry, I'm not near Boston.

I hope you'll let us know how your mother does.

Oh please don't let the doings of 'established members' put you - or
anyone - off posting.
We've all be first timers and we welcome everyone.

I'm really sorry that because I'm in England I have no experience or
knowledge of what you need to know.
What I do know is that anything you find out will be welcomed here, and we'd
like to know how you get on.
Your mum has had a bad time, we'll all be thinking about you both.
Hugs,
Mary

I contacted Dana Farber and got an initial medical record number, but
never went for a second opinion. As your mother is already a patient,
I'd contact her previous surgeon. They were very helpful on the phone
about getting me in: I was going to get a second oncology opinion--not
surgeon. As a referral hospital they seem very organized about getting
patients in quickly.
Good luck.
