I am 37. I have had a painful hard mass in my left breast for almost
2 months. Before that, I had two small lumps in my right underarm.
Scanning of the right brest showed two small spots..the determination
after ultrasound and mammograms was: "probably lymph nodes... check
back in 6 months". Soon afterwards, I developed the lump in the left
breast. It hurts to touch, and sometimes hurts when I don't touch.
After all the testing came up negative on it, it's the same advice:
Come back in 6 months.
I've herad bad stories of waiting 6 months and then finding that
it IS cancer.
Should I be pushing for a biopsy?

Just because someone had to wait for six months to diagnose cancer isn't a
problem, breast cancer takes a long time to grow. By the time there's a
positive diagnosis it could have been growing for years and not causing a
problem.
Also, malignant lumps are rarely painful. Many women (and perhaps men too, I
don't know) have a lot of breast pain at various times, it's unconnected.
The best way is to take the advice of your medical consultant. I suspect
you've been told to return in six months is because there's not a problem
but you need reassurance.
Keep in touch,
Mary

Three scattered painful lymph nodes--why? Have you had a febrile illness or
felt unusually tired lately? Have you had a skin problem on the upper chest
or arm? An infection in that region? Has your physician done a physical
examination, feeling the neck, above the collar bone, under the arms, and in
the groin to see if there are other palpable nodes? If not, you might
consider that self-examination. Your doctor might want to check for liver
or spleen enlargement.
