Hello, I am new to this area. I hope I'm not posting in the wrong
area. I had breast cancer a little over a year ago. I was stage three
and was able to have lumpectomy, chemo, radiation etc. After this I
got my clean bill of health...well as clean as it gets. I am not
getting the support I need in my group and am trying to find emotional
help, support, new friends in regards to dealing with how cancer even
after treatment changes one's life.
I went in a week ago as I was swollen and hurting. I went for a
mammogram. As there is so much scar tissue they did a sonogram and
found a lot of liquid inside where the tumor had been. The sample is
now in pathology. As anyone who's been through chemo and radiation
knows once is enough. I'm trying to stay positive but I'm scared,
lonely and don't have too much support. I should be getting my results
in the middle of this week. I also am here to support others who may
need it. It's the waiting that's so hard!!! Thanks!!!! Liz

Hello Liz,
I'm so sorry you are having to wait for additional test results. I haven't
any experience with problems related to fluid collecting where the tumor has
been, but have a friend who had a similar occurrence.....Hers wasn't any
additional malignancy and eventually resolved. I don't recall if there was
any intervention at all. Perhaps someone with more knowledge will also
answer your post, and will know.
I'm writing because I know how important emotional support can be. My
surgery and chemo was almost 25 years ago, but I recall pretty vividly just
how scared and vulnerable I was. It can be really hard waiting for any
medical test result. Friends and family were wonderfully loving and
supportive of me, and it was still a very difficult time emotionally. It
took a good long while before I began to believe in my health again. I hope
you can try not to "borrow trouble".......my husband is much better at not
crossing bridges before we come to them, but I have to admit he makes very
good sense about it....and sometimes I'm even able to heed him!
I'm hoping that by mid week you will have some reassuring news, and a plan
for dealing with the current problem. I'll be thinking of you.....
Let us know how it goes.....

Fluid this long after surgery is a bit unusual. Breast cancer mostly forms
solid tumors, with fluid accumulations only when it seeds the surface of
spaces that normally exist in the body, such as the pleura and peritoneum.
Still, you will need to await the pathology results. You are certainly
welcome here, and I hope you will find the support you need. Youmight also
checkin on the Breast Cancer Action of Nova Scotia site,

Best wishes,
