the procedure was a breeze, maybe half an hour....and the nipple is
perfectly placed and the right size (circumference) but....nearly flat, kind
of like a mosquito bite. I gather my options are graft from ear, labia,
upper thigh (oh no my perfect gams! well, OK, one of them does have two
small scars on it but otherwise).....or the other nipple (I will not consent
to that) or...Alloderm? I'd like more projection, I don't expect it to match
my still-intact non-cancered side....does anyone have input? I'm still
amazed, considering how much care I took in choosing my surgeon, and how
much experience he has, by how many things have gone "wrong" in this
process. oh well. the nipple surgery was very easy and the healing
uneventful, but what should I do now?

Hello Pumpkin,
I had nipple reconstuction about six months ago.Mine was created by the
surgeon doing a type of origami incision then folding the skin onto itself
(something like that). However, with time, sadly the nipple collapsed, though
visually, it looks great and has been positioned perfectly.I'm not
complaining,I know this sometimes happens and overall I'm still here after
five years and in good health.I also had an implant put in the non cancerous
side breast to even me out.The results are good but I must be honest and say
that the breast with the implant causes me concern with tenderness,
sensitivity and pain at times. As I exercise regulary and run, I am having to
be VERY well supported.

I know that nipples can lose projection. Mine too was a flap/splice thing
and it's quite flat....but yes, good position. I don't like my implant much
but it's better than nothing...it's a decent match (second try) but almost
never comfortable...have you asked your surgeon about redoing the nipple? My
surgeon wanted things to look symmetrical in a sports bra, that was his
barometer....and you can tell there's no projection. I can put a little knob
of surgical tape (or maybe a piece of chewing gum, LOL) there if I wanted to
I guess. I'm going to see him next week and ask about a graft or something.
I don't want to make it WORSE but....I too am a jock. FIVE YEARS and you
just had the nipple reconstruction? wow?

You know, I always hated my nipples showing through clothing, it was
embarrassing! I don't like seeing anyone's nipples through clothing even
now - and that includes men's.

Strangely, I didn't mind breast feeding in public.

I wonder why nipples are embarrassing...considering that ALL humans have
them, they aren't really even a secondary sexual characteristic...babies
have them, old people have them...OK, not all humans have them, I had only
one for about eight months.....sigh.

LOL!

I know it's not rational - but nor is wearing a bathing suit when swimming.
We have different levels of modesty I suppose ... But, as part of breasts,
surely they ARE secondary sexual attributes? And they're erogenous ... even
in babies and old men!

I don't mind my nipples showing even at a nude beach. no prude, I...gave up
underwear in the 1980s...wear miniskirts even in 30 degree weather (today)
and no underwear.....a freak, I is.
