Hi everyone,
Some of you will remember that my wife, Sharon, recurred two years ago with
metastases to her brain and lung. She has had WBR and SRS along with one
neurosurgery this past January. She is currently on a regimen of weekly
Herceptin and Navelbine. Her brain disease seems stable and thanks to the
Herceptin/Navelbine combo, her lung tumor has started to shrink. She's
tolerating the drugs well and is besting the dire prognosis (one maybe two
year survival) given by her oncologist when she recurred.
As her husband, I think I?ve experienced the range of emotions that probably
go along with Sharon?s prognosis and the feeling of helplessness probably
tops that list. Inspired by her courageous battle with this disease, I have
created a beautiful Breast Cancer Ribbon (I?m a jeweler by trade). It is my
way of fighting back through all the dire prognostications, neurosurgeries,
radiation and chemotherapy treatments that she has had to endure over the
last two years.
My first intention was to wear it and bring additional awareness to Breast
Cancer. I showed it to a few clients the day it was finished and the
response was overwhelming. I then had the thought that I could sell them,
raise Breast Cancer Awareness and donate ALL the monies raised (approx. $100
per ribbon) to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fight this horrible
disease.
Since May 1st we have raised $24,000 towards my goal of $100,000 and 1000
ribbons sold.
If anyone is interested in purchasing a ribbon the details are on our
website
http://www.cohassetjewelers.com/komen.html
or visit the Komen site and click on the Cohasset Jewelers Banner
http://www.komenboston.org/
Additionally, I have most of the PR info to date digitized and can forward
along to anyone who wishes.
Please note, this is an all volunteer effort on our part. ALL PROCEEDS are
being donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. To this end, this time of
year, we can only produce about ten ribbons a week.
Regards,
Mark Cirone

Mark, what a beautiful tribute.

My wife got a nice silver-colored bracelet with links about 1/4"
wide, a pink stone in every other link, and one tiny pink ribbon. She
loves it. We were looking for matching earrings but could not find
where the bracelet was sold.
