Pill form Xeloda continues to be tolerable for my wife, although her
feet do get very red, tender and peeling - especially toward the end of
her 2-week cycle (dropped from 6 to 4 pills/day). I wish there was
something more effective than salves we could do to help.

I notice that Genentec's third quarter profits just hit US$652 million,
or about $US2.6 billion/year, largely from Avastin, for which they
charge about US$ 3500 per dose here in the US.

Just recouping their research and development (tongue in cheek)

Steve,

My wife was on Herceptin for four years and has been on Xeloda for the last
two.  She had the same syptoms and we reduce her dosage from 4 pills to 3
(2000 - 1500mg, I think).  They drug has still been effective and her
symtoms have been much better,

Thank you. My wife's dose was reduced from 3 to  2  because of foot
problems not much worse than she is now experience, after 6 cycles.
Feet feverish at night (I made some ice pack sandals). Tried cold soaks
but no help. Now has a hard time being on her feet for more than short
time. Disappointing as this is the week off. Very red, swollen with toes
painful to the mere touch. Much peeling. Uses topical vitamin E oil
along with other emollients. I worry about reducing the dose more. I
have found not much else that she/we can do.
She's already been on Faslodex, Taxol/Avastin and, briefly, Gemzar. It
looks like some women use Tykerb with Xeloda...??? 14 months since
recurrence.
    Onc Monday. We'll see.
