Out of surgery

Just got home about an hour ago from my surgery.  The surgeon removed two
hard lumps from my breast and now we have to wait a week for the pathology
reports.

I didn't speak to the doctor, but he told my husband that the type of lumps
he removed were indicative of cancer.  If they're not cancer, they're most
likely calcium deposits.

One thing I'm surprised about is the pain I'm experiencing (I'm having
trouble getting my pain management pills).  I thought I would have a
completely different type of pain than before, but it's the same pain just
mulitplied.  It's like I can't get away from the buring in my nipple, the
zinging in my nerve endings and the pressure in my lymph nodes.

Did anyone else have those same symptoms?  This is my first surgery, so I
really don't know what to expect.

Hi Kili,

Glad you're out of surgery.

I don't know about the pain or meds for it.

I'm glad the first important step is over. I didn't have your symptoms pre-
or post-op so I don't think my experience would apply. I didn't experience
pain after both my lumpectomy and mastectomy. Maybe madiba - who I believe
is a physician - might read your post and give you the benefit of his
experience and knowledge.

I hope things improve for you very soon.

I saw the post but until Kili gets and takes her pain pills its
pointless to speculate what one can do to help.. For me it goes totally
against the grain to send freshly operated women home, especially
without adequate medication! This is something one expects in Lambarene,
not in the USA.. If its uncertain whether a prescription can be filled
(eg on weekends) then we give patients who are discharged from hospital
enough pills to tide them over until the stores open again.

I received nothing (regarding pain meds) and had to deal with it.  It's
okay; it's day after post surgery and I'm handling okay without.  Don't get
me wrong, it's more than uncomfortable, but I'm dealing with it.

Personally, after this episode, I think our medical system stinks.

The doctor told my husband he really suspects cancer so........  yeah, I'm
HAPPY!!!!!!!  (not)

I'll be in touch,

I'm so glad you've had your operation.  You must be feeling a little
less anxious now.

I'm sorry you're in pain.  I'm afraid I have no advice to offer as I had
no pain before my mastectomy, nor indeed afterwards.

I really hope you can soon get some analgesic which works for you.

Still praying.

Hi Kili,
I'm glad your surgery is over.  I have always hated waiting for any test
results, especially biopsy stuff.  First of all, I hope that you get some
pain relief and then that you can abide the wait until you have any news.
Prayers are with you, as they have been.  Mine was a mastectomy, so my
experience was pretty different.  My best wishes, Kilikini.

Hugs,
Barb

Glad to hear you finally got your lumps outta there, but I know it's a
stressor to wait for the final pathology reports!

No, I never had symptoms like that, despite having had multiple larger
breast tumors plus an enlarged cancerous lymph node.  However, I did
have a mastectomies (one simple, one modified radical), so the
post-operative symptoms would probably differ.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to get pain management pills.  Have you
had any luck getting Ativan, Xanax, or something like that?  From
experience, I know the anxiety can build on or amplify any physical
pain, so getting some of the anti-anxiety meds could conceivably reduce
symptoms and help clarify which are basic.

Good luck to you, Kili -- thinking of you!
