My college age son is thinking about doing a year abroad in England at the University Of Leeds. I have worked with physicians from this University, in fact my son's former pediatrician was a graduate. My questions are: What is the local reputation? Where would the most convenient place to stay be?
And any other thoughts, thanks Alex

I'm afraid I don't personally know anything specific about the medical
reputation of Leeds. In general it is an old-established and reputable
university, in the upper tier of British universities, and medicine was
one of its original specialities. It was about fourth or fifth on my
own list of choices when I became an engineering undergraduate.
As far as accommodation is concerned, your son is probably best advised
to contact the University or its Student Union; addresses etc on their
website which is (as I am sure he knows), www.leeds.ac.uk.

I don't know much about history either. That was my worst subject at
school.
There is a Leeds/Bradford airport nearby. Also Manchester airport is
about an hour's drive away. Leeds/Bradford is not a major airport but
can be flown to via one of the regional international hubs, eg London or
Amsterdam. I'm not sure what direct flights it has to/from the USA.
Manchester is bigger and has regular direct flights to places like
Newark NJ, Chicago and Orlando as I recall.
If flying into London one might consider travelling to Leeds by train.
It is a high-speed service, it is usually cheaper and by avoiding long
waits for air connections it can be quicker. But it does mean handling
one's own baggage through several connections - plane to airport-to-city
train to tube-train to inter-city train.

Leeds U was apparently in the news this week for making paper darts, if
that is any help.
