Hi all,

i have never posted here as i didn't need to until now.

i have been diagnosed with a cancerous (sp) lump in my breast and am
having it removed Oct. 3....as an outpatient.  Is that normal?

Instead of regular radiation, i will be having Brachytherapy in Nov.
where tubes are inserted into the breast and radiation pellets are
inserted. Then i will be done with radiation.

Has anyone had this procedure and how did it go?

Hi, cal,

Welcome to the group . . . but I'm sorry to hear you have need of it!

I've know of others who had outpatient lumpectomy.  I don't think it's
standard here (Michigan, USA), but it may depend on size/location of lump.

Sorry, no personal experience.   Had double mastectomies & regular
radiation treatments.

Take care,

I think lumpectomy is routinely done as outpatient.  I have had this done 3
times and it goes well, very little pain afterward, takes about half hour,
you wake up and rest little while, then go home.  If a person has other
problems, like heart or diabetes they might do it inpatient.  I have never
heard of brachytherapy but it sounds like a good deal, better than 30 trips
for regular radiation.  I had MammoSite which is also a shorter treatment.
You will do fine and it is not as bad as you imagine.  Let us know
afterward.
