Question from a Lurker

I apologize if I should not be here, but everyone here seems so
knowledgeable that I am hoping to get some feedback from you.

I am 56, and after monitoring a lump in my right breast for almost a
year, my family doctor, radiologist and surgeon felt that I should have
a lumpectomy and get rid of this lump as it appeared to be growing.

I had this done in December, and a two inch lump was removed.  It was
benign, but the surgeon took appx. four dissections of this lump, and
told me what this was.  I cannot remember what he called it, but he said
this puts me at an increased risk for breast cancer.  There is no b/c in
my family.

All was well until I had to go back for a baseline mammogram in June.
The lump was back, in the same spot.  So, onto another ultrasound and
then another appt. with the surgeon to get a third opinion.  He agreed
with the radiologist and said to wait and get another ultrasound in
six months, which would be this December.

They feel it may be scar tissue from the previous lumpectomy.

I might add that I have very dense breasts, and was on hormones
(Prempro) for eleven years, and now off the meds. for almost two years.

I also had a wire placement prior to the lumpectomy which was not fun.

My feeling is that they maybe missed the correct lump, and it is now
growing back.

Has anyone ever had scar tissue pop up after a lumpectomy, and has
anyone ever had the wrong lump removed?

I appreciate any info., and wish all of you the best.  You are all
heroes in my book.

Sincerely,

Kate

Thanks!  You know, I still feel like a spring chicken though.  LOL

Getting old is definitely not for sissies.

Yeah wire placement was not fun at all (kinda scarey)--even if one was
numbed up I still felt "picks" as it went in.
