There's probably one in each Province Jackie. (unless private clinics
have them.
Steph on alt.support.cancer recently said there's only one in BC
and http://bca.ns.ca/indice/2002/51index.cgi/noframes/read/204662  NS
apparently has one.

Apparently not reliable for lesions smaller than 1 cm.
So my "take" on all of that is they are only used (in Canada) in very
specific situations (because they're expensive  and sometimes the
patient has to pay for this "sexy" new expensive technology that other
testing modalities do just as well.
Here's where I'm getting some of the info, the rest comes from memory of
Steph's posts on ASC. He's a rad onc in BC

Had one two years ago after both a bone scan and an MRI indicated that I had
bone mets.  I didn't.  They are painless.

PET scanning isn't available in Newfoundland and Labrador. There are 2
MRI's in the province at the moment - one's a temporary mobile unit.

My wife had a PET scan in December, 2002.  It picked up two
small spots in her liver that a previous CT scan had missed.
We got her started back on chemo immediately; things are
somewhat controlled now.

We live in California and our health care provider is
Kaiser.  We had to fight long and hard to get this scan.
Luckily we had an aggressive consultant working with us who
gave us the relevant citations from the literature to
support our efforts.  Good luck. - Tony

Jackie,
I've had a few PET scans.  In very lay terms, they inject you with a
sugar-like substance which attaches to cancer cells.  Then they scan the
body and see if anything shows up.  It is completely painless.  I'm in the
states, so don't know about whereabouts in Canada.  Good luck!
