Hi,

We have a friend who needs oxygen to get about, but she has only been
supplied with the big bottles, which are not portable.

As she has not been able to get a portable one, I bought one for her
from a scuba diving source. The guy who supplied it said that we can
just go to a chemist and get an exchange when it is empty - does anyone
know how this works. E.g. do you have to register, or pre-book, or do
you just go in, hand over the old one, and pay the money?

I dont think she has long to live, so we want to get this sorted
quickly.

Many thanks

I'd ask your local pharmacist.

I've never done it but I don't see why there should be any problem, as
long as they have the appropriate size in stock.  If they have notice
that you are going to need them, then they should be able to get stock
in ready, just like with any other medicine.  If not, they'll tell you
what to do.

Given that, I suppose its the same as exchanging dive or weld bottles.

Tim Jackson, as always, responded with useful information.

You might also get useful advice from BOC (British Oxygen, as was). From
yell.com (yellow pages):

BOC Gases
Chinnor Rd, Thame, Oxfordshire OX9 3NX
Tel: 01844 215014
Classification: Gases - Industrial & Medical

Best wishes,
