This was a while ago. I'm pretty sure that bras were eventually
exonerated as a possible risk factor for breast cancer. However they
can be an issue for lymphedema sufferers, and in the recovery period
from breast surgery.

That would be nice. I've essentially sworn them off since I thought I
detected fewer lumps once I doffed the bra. But I DON'T like letting it
all hang out! Have I dated myself now? :-)
What? Bras causing BC. Come on. As for lymph drainage, a bra will not
affect the flow at all. It is like saying tight underwear causes edema. BC
is initiated a specific gene not bras.

It's possible that you're right about there being no connection between
tight clothes and lymph drainage. However, anyone who has had manual
lymph drainage (MLD) knows how close to the surface of the skin the
lymph system is. An MLD therapist barely touches the skin. Therefore,
it isn't so far-fetched that something pressing far more deeply than
the therapist could be inhibiting flow.
I'm one of the women who had fibrocystic lumps disappear after ceasing
to wear a traditional bra. Not a double-blind study, I know, but I'm
one of many people who has had the same experience. It's a lot simpler
to wear something less constrictive than it is to choose one's genes
(genetic cause not being determined either at this point). Given that
simplicity, I think I'll keep relaxed clothing in my anti-cancer
arsenal.
