A friend of mine was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I was looking
for a book that could help her through the whole ordeal. I am not
looking for anything medical/scientific. I have several of those books
being that I am a BC survivor myself. What I had in mind was a book
that would offer support and encouragement, something "inspirational"
in other words. Actually, it doesn't even have to be on BC, just a
book to help her through. I went to Barns and Nobles but didn't find
anything suitable.
Since I am on this board and writing a post, I will take this
opportunity to let those of you who are battling cancer now, that life
goes on, even after cancer. Sometimes, it gets even better. Life AC
is often better than life BC! I am sending good thoughts out to all of
you.
Thank you
GFC (a nine+ year breast cancer survivor who went through surgery,
chemo, radiation, five years of tam and is now doing remarkably well!)

Hi GFC,
I'm Barb, a 22 year BC survivor of Stage II, Estrogen positive cancer. I
had mastectomy, followed by a year of CMF chemo and then reconstruction. I
live in a very, very rural area of northcentral Pennsylvania. In our tiny,
sparsely populated county, there is an author who has written a book called,
February Light. It's about her own struggle with ovarian cancer. It's
beautifully written and can be found on Amazon, I think. I enjoyed it and
have given it as a gift. It's tough to make a recommendation when her
tastes are unknown, however. Of course, you know about Susan Love's Breast
Book---not something I've ever read or had, but is often recommended by many
others on the group.
I wish you and your friend well. Remember very clearly how important the
love and support of my friends was during my surgery and treatment. Having
experienced this yourself, you'll be a fine listener.

Barb, it sounds like a winner. I will check it out. I have two or
three books by Susan Love and they are wonderful, but I was looking for
something less scientific and more inspirational. I think the one you
suggested would be perfect.
Thanks again,
