Hi all,
I had 1st chemo treatment (FEC) 10 days ago and I think they have
given me a placibo ? Is that the right word? No side effects
what-so-ever and I'm still doing all my jobs...walked all round the Sunday
Market today after mucking out. filling haynets and walking the dog... Will
it stay like this or does it get as bad as they say?...A friend of a friend
has taken to her bed and feels lousy...Cooked a huge Sunday Dinner and still
feel okay..Has any-one else had this? Do I need to prepare myself for
worse to come?
Hope not,
Pam xx

First I am so sorry that you have a reason to seek out the news group, when
my wife Trini was going through treatment her first Chemo was 6 rounds of
A/C and her very first shot was mild, but for her they got progressively
worse, she did no run the all of all the did affects but she hit the biggest
ones.

From what I've seen on this ng some people sail through chemo with no side
effects. Most people DO have some reactions, some very strong ones. But it's
all in the normal range. I doubt they'd give you a placebo ... you're just
lucky. But the side effects might still come so don't get complacent.
Hugs,

I have had a lot of experience with chemo and I have never had the
degree of symptoms that I could. It is kind of a weird but good let
down. Consider yourself lucky and remember that chemo side effects can
be cumulative and subtle (fatigue is particularly easy to devalue), so
remember to give yourself a break anyway.

hi,
thank you for your contributions...gave me something to think
about...... Will just keep thinking every good day is one less bad day to
the end of the sessions....Then there's the radio-therapy to look forward
to.......
good wishes to all

Hi, Pam.
To answer your first post, it's spelled "placebo".
And by all means revel in the fact that you didn't get much
in the way of adverse effects. As others have told you,
everyone's experience is different, there's no one set of
symptoms that fits all.
The whole set of all dire possibilities gets posted here
as a warning, not as a guarantee.
BTW, I've seen lots of useful hints for coping with *possible*
(not guaranteed!) side effects of radiation...
Good Luck!

Hi Pam,
Liz found that she spent one day curled up in a "nest" after her FEC
sessions, after taking a variety of anti nausea drugs. The second
day, sh'd work part time, and then back to the fray. This pattern
continued pretty much to the end.
She was only sick once, consumed lots of ginger and had cravings for a
variety of snack foods. The one I remember is pickled onion Monster
Munch (they're really horrible).
All the best
Peter

Hi,
Too right.... I can't imagine any-one having a craving for them
!!!! Sounds like she coped really well...The dr. won't let me go back to
work cos of the risk of infection...just got another certificate for 18
weeks...2nd session next Thursday....
Good vibes

Oh gosh, I meant the end of her chemo sessions. After that, it was
radiotherapy, and now two years of five into Tamoxifen, mainly
problem-free.

Hello,
Be sure they didn't give you a placebo - no one messes around with
that sort of things.
Chemo is being a bitch for me - they say because of the young age. EC
sent me to bed for two days the first time, and one additional day for
every cycle after that. CMF has been a tad better.
I'm glad you're coping fine, but don't overdo it. Take a rest whenever
you feel like you're needing it, and swallow your pride if someone
offers to help you out and say "yes, thank you". Sparing your energies
now will help in coping with the chemo later on.
Happy Easter, everyone

Hi Chiara,
Happy Easter to every-one too......Never fear... I'm only too
willing for folks to help me......and that has nothing to do with the chemo
!!!!!! But like to do some things myself. No-one can do the stable as I
like it... but I did ask Jake (my Son) to do it after my
operation...which he did willingly, bless 'im.... Didn't really think
they would give me a dummy, but it crossed my mind......
love Pam xx
