My wife is part of such a trial being carried out under the aegis of the
Mayo Clinic. She started in February, but at one point the weekly infusions
were interupted for four weeks because of a drop in her cardiac ejection
percentage, a known side effect of this drug. The cardiac function
recovered and she is now continuing, but with careful monitoring.

I'm part of that clinical trial. After 4xAc and 4xTaxotere+Herceptin, I am
on 3weekly Herceptin therapy for a year.
I had a lumpectomy and no cancer in the lymphnodes, so looks like I 'm in a
similar situation as the woman you met. Oh yea, had radio therapy after the
chemo as well. I'm having my first mammogram this Friday, so fingers crossed
please guys.
Take care..

My wife has been on Herceptin for about 18 months. It has kept the disease
progression in check.

Mark, so glad to hear that your wifes treatment is keeping this horrible
disease at bay.
Long may it continue!
Take care,

that's great mark - there is a small percentage of bc that is actually cured
by herceptin....very small though....is it hard stuff to take?

My wife is in a study of Herceptin as an adjuvant treatment; weekly for a
year. The possible side effect, which we knew of in advance, is the
weakening of the heart, but in most people this recovers once the drug is
stopped. At one point my wife experienced a drop in her ejection % so the
drug was stopped for four weeks and she recovered full function. She is now
back on the Herceptin, but with regular heart echo tests. Other than that
she's tolerating it well, no nausea, weakness, hair loss etc.
